The following is one of the symptoms of fluoride poisoning:
"Skin rash or itching, especially after showers or bathing." See my post on the "Useful Sites" Thread under the "Fibromyalgia" section. |

I thought I was going crazy! I sometimes get the itches so bad, which usually happens after I get out of the shower. The arms, legs and shoulders are the worst. My skin feels hot when it flairs up. I went to a doctor about 10 years ago explaining what was happening to me. He told me I was allergic to water! I couldn't believe it, I thought "how could that be"? I have lived with this for many years and I have not pursued an answer because of the crazy diagnosis this doctor gave me. I just suffer with it on a daily basis. Thank you for making me feel that I'm not alone with this. I love this site and all the support it provides.

Itchy-pals with fibro: If you haven't done so, please get your free thyroid hormone levels checked (free T3 & free T4) along with thyroid antibodies. A low free T3 (even one in the bottom third of the ref range) along with T antibodies, is a recipe for itching.
If your doc balks on ordering these tests, they can be self-ordered through a Health Check USA lab. TSH test won't give the needed info in this case ... and if free T3 is low, getting a little hormone supplementation there can really improve the itching, as well as certain fibro symptoms like tendonitis. Best wishes. |

Ok, I have been sick for a long while with aches and pains. I finally after many test found out that was Fibro and CFS. Yes, I get itches in my hands and feet to the point that I can't stand it. I don't find anything to give me relief.

Hi! I am pretty new here and I do have FM , among other things. I developed a huge case of hives and after 3 Drs. found out that it is Dermatographism, which used to be called "skin writing"...
I am on a course of antihistamines morning and night and went thru a prednisone taper to get them somewhat under control. It is miserable... I welt up, feel like bees or bugs on me... All this talk of itching w/FM makes me wonder. B4 I had the welts/hives show up, I continually felt like something was crawling on my skin or that it was so dry, it felt tight.... i literally coat my skin in Aquaphilac cream to keep it moist... It really works.. take care all....

I get this after water exposure -- I call it my "after-shower torture". Anything touching my skin (like a towel or clothing) will set it off. It lasts about 45 minutes, but only if I can keep from scratching. I used to apply ice to the itchy spots instead of scratching. Also a good dose of Benedryll before a bath will nearly prevent it. And now that I am taking gabapentin the intensity is far more muted, and I can ignore the itchiness. It has made all the difference in the world.
Hope this info is of help to someone. --Shari |
