Default MRI and Chronic Fatigue

I saw a news item on NBC.com that shows MRI scans of a person with chronic fatigue syndrome's brain is different in the right frontal/temporal lobe than "normal" brains. The article stated that this is proof that chronic fatigue exists physiologically and isn't just a psychological phenomenon.

Yes, it was a Stanford study, Dr. Jose Montoya using a DTI scan (diffusion tensor imaging) showed that ME patients had overall white matter reduction as well as a reduced thalamus. Five small sections of the brain connected with the right arculate fascicuus displayed increased cortical thickness. The thalamus relays sensory and motor signals. The increased right arculate fascicuus is most likely due to fatigue and is also seen in Alzheimers patients.
