Default Lyrica

I just got a message from someone that the drug Lyrica has been approved for Fibromyalgia. It is already used to treat nerve pain. I guess it works for some, but not for all. It has a list of side effects that anyone thinking of asking for it should check out. Just Google it.

Default Check out how it was approved

Coyote,
I read about the approval of lyrica on another site called Health Boards or something like that. I think you can read about it even if you don't join. A member posted a thread all about how it was approved - very interesting reading. Check it out. Unfortunately that forum is quite restrictive - unlike this one. No PM's or links allowed.
I am now on 400 lyrica for the 2nd time with no response. I am hoping they
take it higher this time as I see others on higher amounts. I have full body fibro and am in pain 24/7. Now have TMJD also. Very painful to speak, eat, swallow.
Glad to see lyrica approved - hopefully that will lead to more research for other fibro drugs. I do know someone who has great success with very low doses.

There has sure been a huge number of posts started on the use of Lyrica for treating fibromyalgia. My doc first tried it on me over a year ago, and we kept going up to higher and higher doses, but I never had any good effects, just a whole lot of side-effects.

Then again, I have heard from other people who say that the Lyrica really did help them, so I guess it has to do with your body chemistry a lot. Oh, and Sydney, I did read a very long article about why Lyrica was formulated. I'm not sure if it's the same as what you read or not, but this article claimed that one of the main reasons was that the company making Neurontin had lost it's patent on the medicine, and Lyrica was supposed to be an improved version of that medication.

I loved Lyrica. Helped by nerve pain. But it has a bad rep for gaining weight...30 lbs in 2 months and can make you pre diabetic so you have to watch your sugar.

Default Weigh Gain - yes Pre diabetic - never knew that ?????

Shelley, etc.
I have been on 400 mg. of lyrica for months with no pain relief. Dr. says to conntinue it anyway. I actually want to go higher as I have tried so many meds at high doses with no help. He says no for now.
I did not know about the pre diabetic issue. Do I google it and find that out?
How do you know you are becoming p. d. My sugar is about 88 or so. I can't have frequent blood draws - no veins and severe RSD as well as fibro - causes terrible chronic pain in arm.
Thanks
Sydney

Arrow Lyrica-1st drug approved for FMS

Lyrica was just approved--21 june 2007-- by FDA for Fibromyalgia.

http://www.fda.gov/consumer/updates/...gia062107.html

"Living w/ FMS--first drug approved for treatment"
interesting fact filled article on more than Lyrica, but many questions about this drug are answered.

Also check out Drug Mfg. website for more about Lyrica, Fibromyalgia and other conditions treated

You mean to tell me, Lyrica is a substitute for Depakote???? I guess that breaks it for me then. I've been on too many meds that cause weight gain and I don't want to go there again unless my life depends on it.
