Default Bean sprouts

I've finally taken to growing my own bean sprouts. We have lots of stir fries (Thai and Chinese food), and we nearly always put sprouts in those. Also, summer's on it's way here so I can grow sprouts for our salads.

I'm using the "el cheapo" growing in a glass jar method, but I can't remember whether to put the sprouts in the light on a window ledge, or whether I should I keep them to sprout in the dark, or less bright area of my kitchen.

Melody? Anyone?

I'll bet you could find something on YouTube about doing your own sprouts. I know Melody has made some videos!

Thanks Twink. I've looked at lots of Mel's videos in the past, but they're hard to find when you don't have the links.

I'll keep looking.

a tv show just did a segment on sprouts this morning..

she said they don't do well if they are too wet or standing in water.
rinse well and tap or shake of as much excess water as you can.

diffused light is OK but not in direct sunlight

Thanks Jo*Mar. I have them tilted so they're constantly draining, but it was the amount of light I wasn't sure about.

You've answered my question, thank you.

Thanks Brain. I have my first lot soaking now, so I'll see how I go.

We use a lot of sprouts in our stir fries, but sometimes it's hard to buy ones that are still fresh at my local store. I thought it would be much better to grow my own, but I'd been having trouble getting the beans. Anyway, I have them now and I've begun my sprouting

I'll let you know how I get on.

It's really hard to find them around here. and then, you'd better use them today or you're throwing them away. Sprouting makes sense on so many levels.

If you search Melody's posts, she had many on here about her
technique. She is doing very well with them, and the addition of them to her diet has really helped her type II diabetes.

She sprouts many types too.

The radish sprouts will be one type I'd like to try for my summer salads. Yum, the radish you have when you don't have a radish!

I have read all her prior posts and it was mostly them that got me interested all over again. I used to grow them some 30 years ago, but I'd forgotten the technique until Mel started posting about her successes. Thank you Melody.
