Oh, and dough hooks are just that - for dough. Use the beaters for cookies, brownies, muffins etc. I mean, you could use the dough hooks I guess, but it doesn't seem like they'd mix as well.
Trust me, this machine is NOT going to bog or get stuck in a little peanut butter. And the machines should all come with hooks. Maybe there's a youtube of somebody using one?

Hi.
there's a guy around the corner from me WHO SELLS EVERYTHING. And I mean EVERYTHING. Kind of like the old fashioned junk man who sells anything you can think of in his shop. My most recent purchase (a few months ago), was this GIGORMOUS SOUP POT (WITH COVER). Once a month or so, I make a big pot of tomato barley vegetable soup. I have all these freezer containers and I freeze everything and when Alan or I want a hot bowl of soup, I just pop a container out, let it thaw (I don't microwave in plastic anything), and I transfer to a pot and heat it up. I made 19 servings last time. That is to show you how BIG the pot is. What did I pay for this beauty? $5.00. The best thing I got from him so far. But I've gotten 10 Mason Jars, with lids and caps, 3 vcrs (none of which worked and I returned them to thim), A big brownie baking pan. and various other stuff. He sells electric appliances also but I've never made it my business to go and check on that. Tomorrow I just might do that. He sells EVERYTHING. And if it doesn't work, he takes it back. But if I get a mixer, I'll make him plug it in and see if it works. I can always download the manual online. He sells clothes too. And tapes, and electric components, RCA CABLES, THIS GUYS SELLS EVERYTHING. He's like a little GEM store. If you need it, HE PROBABLY HAS IT. Tomorrow I shall go treasure hunting. will let you know if I find anything delicious. Melody

Standing mixers are my choice, always wanted a Kitchen Aid, lost use of one hand, bake no more but miss it. Kitchen Aids do run like tanks. We have a Cuisart food processor and after years still goes strongly. I'm a firm believer in looking for best price but you get what you pay for, a little (or a lot) means it should last longer. I have a Cuisinart hand mixer, seems to do fine. (@ $50 ?)
I don't buy a lot of clothes, found one well made thing of good materials fit and looked and wore better than 4-5 cheap things. Feel important to me. I miss cooking and dressing self (DH finds woman's clothes so complicated)

My favorite dress was a sheath, well-made and lined and beautiful, a dress I never could have bought in the high end store it started in but I bought it 2nd hand (it was in perfect shape) for $5.00. Once in awhile extreme buys come by. Of course it was size two, back then I was little and firm, etc. Don't think it would slide over hips and belly like it used to. Think I got it because it fit original owner no more. Now my turn to give it up.

I grew up learning how to cook with my mom's old Dormeyer Silver Queen stand mixer. The thing is a beast. It goes through everything! It has two heavy duty stainless steel bowls, hefty metal beaters, and a bunch of attachments.
One of our dogs ran away with the large bowl that went with it long ago. After Ebay came into being, I found another mixer with all the attachments and the bowls for less than $20.00. I bought it and I use it for parts, keeping the old mixer going. I could have just used the new one, but it wouldn't have been the same!

RW!
I grew up with my Mom's old stand mixer. She died 30+ years ago. Wish I'd kept it but I was young and thought new was better then.

Mel, I have two of those ginormous speckled soup pots!
I can't really cook all that well, but everybody loves my soup. I make beef barley, garden cabbage or chilli and freeze it - lol I put it on the stove to heat, too. Sometimes I make a big hobo stew and put it on the grill for parties. I'd love to live around that guy, but I have SO much stuff now! I should be selling stuff out of my kitchen. Kicker - I'm all about frugal. The best appliances I can afford, and take care of them. But cheap shirts, because I'm going to ruin them. Kids, cleaning, pets? No label or way of making them is gonna save them from my lifestyle! And dresses - don't have em, where do I go to wear 'em? I learned leather coats save money in the long haul for me, because I can wear the daylights out of them. Leather handbags too. They have to take a real pounding.

Ooooooh!! Look what I just found on youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gte8QwdOAcA&NR=1 This is the first time I have ever seen a Stand Up Mixer doing ANYTHING. My mother never had one. She instructs in the use of the Beater. I think she calls it that. Is this the same thing as a paddle. Will this do for my brownies and muffins mix. This is exactly what I want it for. i don't bake bread but I am learning how to bake a variety of things. Melody P.S. I 'm going to watch all the instructional videos. That's how I do stuff. I learn FIRST, then I buy. lol UPDATE::::: Just took a walk to my local Telco. They have the Hamilton Beach Stand up mixer. Beaters, wisk, and dough hook. All for $54.99. And my friend works there and gets a 25% discount on anything she buys. So I can use the beaters for my brownies and muffins, yes?? This is going to turn out just fine for me. lol
