Thumbs up Kefir now at Costco's!

We went to Costco this morning and discovered Lifeway Kefir
in the Frig there!

96 oz for 9.99. Considering how much we go thru, this looks
like a little saving for us. Exp date is 5-02-12.
Mixture of strawberrry and blueberry. The smaller bottles do increase unit price, but the take with feature is nice to have.
8oz each.

I've never tried Kefir before but know someone who makes it. What does it taste like? I don't like milk but I do like flavored yogurt.

Thumbs up

Kefir is delicious and yes, tastes a bit like liquid yogurt

Very healthy source of probiotics, and the Lifeway flavored versions are all natural so still healthy

I'm not a Costco member but get our at Publix supermarket, currently 2 for $7 and I download coupons from lifeway.net each month

Thumbs up

I have a NEW life since using the Kefir that Chemar suggested
for us. I am so grateful!

Kefir has a similar quality to yogurt, but for me it is slightly
different. One gets used to the "bite" and when I started it was with the unflavored one...which is more difficult to get used to.
I was so ill then, nausea, cramps etc. But I did it.

Now I have been doing 1/2 peach and 1/2 plain. I have it for
dessert about 3 nights a week, 8oz.
To avoid the sugar. I think I'll still get the plain in quarts, but now
hubby can have the flavored ones. He doesn't like the peach that I love.

I guess it is different for each person, but I even feel GOOD after having my portion. It seems to cool my stomach and settle me somehow. And as for the "other issues" I am in a new normal now! We always have yogurt but it doesn't do much for me at all, healthwise.

I was so happy to see the Kefir this morning! All the frig was filled up, not a box taken yet! I was surprised. I've been asking in my heart to have Kefir there, and then it appeared!

Question Kefir and UTIs

Just wondering if any of you who have used the Kefir know whether it would be useful for someone suffering recurrent and serious UTIs? Makes sense that it would be helpful due to the antibiotic load, but I also wondered about it being useful as an actual preventative for infections in the UT.

I mentioned it to someone in Women's Health today as I had seen mention of it by other women on the net as being helpful. I gather that the new poster is an aussie like me, so not sure where to get it as yet. Just wanted to ask your opinions please.

Thanks.

Lightbulb

I don't get actual infections... but after menopause I noticed I was less comfortable in the female department. Lower estrogen levels, seems to change that area and make it easier to irritate.

The Kefir for me has been very helpful for this issue. It took a while, maybe a month to notice improvements, but they are certainly there.

A lifetime of antibiotics! I think we all have this problem to some extent. So I am pleased that the Kefir is helping me with this as well as the other GI issues I was having. It is not expensive, and and the benefits are vastly superior to yogurt.

Default uti

My older sister has a terrible time with UTI's. She won't eat Kefir but has been having good luck with yogurt and OTC cranberry pills. I don't know what is available in Australia, here you have to be careful not to get the kind with Bentadine as an ingredient, there is a variety with cranberry only. A good quality Greek Yogurt (I like Fage) might help if you cant find Kefir.

I love Kefir as well but I tried it 3 times and each time it made my neuropathy hurt . I have some immune issues from the steroid so am hoping I can try again when I recover from that.
