Hmmmmmm..I wonder if you can cook/bake the same desserts in a crock pot that you do in a camping dutch oven? I have a simple recipe for a yummy dessert for the D.O. Put a can of pie filling in the bottom, over it put one cake mix mixed with one can of soda pop. Check it after 45-60 min. When I made it in the D.O. it took about 50 min. with coals ontop of the lid & some underneath. A crock pot is slower I guess, so it would take a little longer.
I just looked in my camping cookbook & it gives these suggestions: 1)cherries, choc cake, coke 2)apples, spice cake, rootbeer 3)fruit coctail (no liquid), white cake, 7-up 4)blueberries, white cake, cream soda 5) cranberries, butter cake, cream soda But you can do whatever mixture you want. I think I did apple filling, yellow cake, 7-up. |

Thank you everyone. The recipes all sound so yummy.
I'm definitely going to try the Triple Chocolate Decadence Dessert and the Zucchini Bread! I also like the sound of the Dutch Oven recipes and will give some of those a try too. I imagine if they're cooked over the same times and temperatures as the other slow cooked dessert recipes, they should turn out OK. But.............. I have some questions that may sound strange to you, but I promise you I'm serious! What is 7up? I know it's a soda of some kind but we don't have it here in Oz, so what would be a close substitute? Also what is Creaming Soda? Is that a yellow cordial (soda) as I think we do have one like that. Lastly, what size bottles/cans of the soft drinks do you use?

We do have a lime/lemon soft drink that I could substitute for 7up, and we have a yellow and a red creaming soda. The red is a raspberry I think, but I don't know about the yellow one. Maybe I could use lemonade instead? Now I have to find out how many fluid ozs are in the cans or bottles that Lor's recipes use, so I can convert this to mls.

Koala, There are 12 fluid ozs. in a can of soda pop.
Do you have "Sprite"? You can use that. Acually, you can use any ole soda pop & cake mix mixture, you want & any fruit. |

Crockpot Zucchini Bread
I think I should have waited the full 4 hrs - but had to go to the store so i took it out to soon. looked and smelled good, but sank as it was cooling so next time 4 hrs I tried a Microwave Rhubarb dessert- it came out nice and tasty. Didn't have to heat up the oven and was done in 15 minutes +/- vs baking in a hot oven.

I'm so sorry your Zucchini Bread wasn't as good as you had hoped Jo, but I'm keeping your recipe and intend to try it soon. It sounds really yum, and my DH loves most things with walnuts!

I was going to put the mixture in 4 small individual dishes, but I ended up using just one large bowl which I placed in water in my slow cooker, and then I cooked it for about 6 hours on high. I had intended serving it with vanilla ice cream, but ended up just pouring fresh cream over ........... and it was just fabulous. Thank you very much Lor. I can't wait to try another one.

DH has a date loaf in the regular oven, and we have a frozen dessert in the freezer on stand by just incase this one fails. I have guests coming for dinner tonight, so I'll let you know tomorrow how it went.
