Default Discogram

I'm not sure this is a new "thread", however, my husband's back surgeon has reccomended that he have a discogram. He,(the Dr.) said there was some discomfort, but it would help him know if surgery would benefit my husband. He said the physician he would be referring my husband is very profficient in performing the procedure and even teaches others to do the procedure My question is two fold, is it painful and is it really necessary according to those of you who may have had this procedure. Thank you so much for your help.

Hi ~ A discogram is very important in the "pain mapping" to find which disc exactly is the culprit that is causing your husband the pain. So often surgeons will do surgery, but many do surgery on the wrong disc!!! You have no idea how often this happens. So a discogram is an important tool in finding out exactly what needs to be done.

Unfortunately, it IS PAINFUL. I won't beat around the bush ~ but it doesn't last very long, so that's good.

Sorry to thru a monkey wrench in there. But it is important. God bless. Hugs, Lee
