Smile deep cough

Not sure where to put this but this is the third or fourth time I've had this cough in a year. It is connected to a cold each time but the cough is deep, lots of mucus with coughing fits. I have to have a cough time in the morning and night just to clear. You can hear the sounds of congestion until, I do. I get pretty exhausted from coughing too. I have tachychardia (common form) and sometimes it feels like quite a strain on my heart and my heart palpatations come more frequently. I do have a puffer as I am allergic to sulphites. The other day I had to take the puffer in order to breath as I found out there were sulphites in the mustard I ate (sheesh).

I don't smoke (quit 30 years ago, smoked for 15). Grew up in a home of smoking adults though. I have not lived with a smoker for 30 years or so. No particular toxins in the air here, other than a regular city's pollution. I am about 30 to 50 lbs over weight and moderately active. I work 5 days a week for five hours a day and am quite involved with my family.

I mentioned it to my Doc at one point when I had a cold but of course they can't hear anything when I've finished clearing my lungs out so it is a bit frustrating. The first time I had this cough was about 10 years ago but it is definitely happening more frequently and I can't tell if it is worse each time but it sure is exhausting. There is often a feeling of pinching in my chest when I first get these colds. Yes, I think pinching is the best way to describe it...like I little pains everywhere in my chest area.

Sometimes I wish I could get more air into my lungs.

I'm not sure how to emphasize to the Doctor the intensity of these issues or if there is another way to relieve myself of the repeated episodes. One time last year I had antibiotics and that seemed to help. I also had antibiotics about two months ago for a tooth infection. The tooth needs to be removed but I've been a bit too busy at work to go yet.

Any insight will be much appreciated.
