Default Neuropothy and disphagia

My dad just called me. He has been dealing with chronic pancreatitis for 7 yrs, and total body neuropothy for about the past 6 yrs. He has little feeling left in either leg below the knee, and one arm below the elbow. He is in constant pain with the neuropothy. He is on some kind of pain patch that helps somewhat but doesnt relieve the pain or discomfort. I am wondering about this new issue he's been diagnosed with. He did a barium swollow test last week and see's his GI on monday. He was advised he aspirates with every swallow - food, drink, even his own spewtum. They have recommended he either has all his food blended to a thick consistancy, or better and recommended, begin tube feeding. Has anyone dealt with this? He also has virtually no bowel control due to the disease anymore. I am just wondering what else I have to anticipate? How long till one is looking at the end when things have progressed to this point? He has DNR's and living wills in place and is tired of the fight. Thoughts, suggestions or advise?
Sad in Saskatchewan...
