Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis/Chlorogenic Acid
Hi, there,
I joined back in April, but didn't post or participate, so again trying to divest myself of all that I've experienced with HypoKPP-2. Glucose causes insulin spikes which trigger HypoKPP attacks.
In my previous post I mentioned that I had to go on a ketogenic diet for mestinon to be worth using. Other benefits: My total cholesterol, triglycerides, LDL and HDL all improved. What didn't improve was my fasting glucose. At 95 it's high normal and for someone in whose family diabetes is a regular feature, well, it's not acceptable. Still, the A1C is a better measure over time.
Hey, but for whatever reason, my doctor didn't order the A1C test I wanted, but back on March 31, 2012 it was above normal, though not by much. 6.0 when 5.7 is the upper limit of normal. In any case, you can order the test via Life Extension if you are a member, but it's out of your own pocket. I think it's worth it.
Anyway, a ketogenic diet doesn't halt your body from converting fat to glucose, a process called glucogenesis can ramp up your glucose while eating only fat. This can lead to a process called glycation which can mess with the walls of your arteries. Well, I discovered that chlorogenic acid found in green coffee extract can mitigate blood glucose.
The NIH has quite a few abstracts, so I'm using 400 mg of chlorogenic acid with breakfast and dinner. My Mom's a diabetic with an A1C of 9, so I'm going to suggest it as he's afraid the pills alone aren't enough and she'll have to go on insulin. Let me be the guineau pig. As she'll be 80 in December, I dont think she's up to a needle. I'd have to give the injections. She was 54 when she was diagnosed diabetes and I'm that now. Can't deal with both HypoKPP and diabetes. It just aint gonna happen. Me & Mom's doctor, September 8th.
