Please note, this is my first posting of a thread, of any sort, please forgive any "outside the lines" style as I am simply shooting from the hip.
Hello, I am a 42 yr old male, living in Canada, in April of 2012 I had a CT scan which identified: "subarachnoid cyst in the middle right cranial fossa" I understood, at the time that cysts in the brain were not uncommon and mine was of little concern. I've recently experienced some minor memory issues and my Dr. ordered a brain spect scan, which was performed in January of this year, (2013). I received the results, of the scan, on Feb 6. 2013 and they showed: "a region of diminished perfusion is noted, which is more extensive than the appearance of the cyct on the CT scan. This raises the possibility of a local mass effect." and later goes on to read: "The region of decreased perfusion which is larger than the volume of the subarachnoid cyst anterior to the right temporal lobe may indicate a mass effect. Consider Neurosurgical opinion" Upon finding out the results, on Feb 6th, I asked my Dr. if I should be concerned and he replied "you should be extremely concerned" then went on to say that it might be brain cancer and pointed out that the person making the report was not the normal technician, but a specialist who recommended a neurosurgeon's council, rather than a neurologist. Needless to say, I was floored and still view the entire situation as surreal. And so my question to you is: I've been anxiously waiting, for over a month to speak with a neurosurgeon and have a CT scan performed for diagnosis and have heard nothing, nor have I been scheduled for a CT scan. Is it reasonable for me to be anxious and frustrated at, from my point of view, what appears to be a lackadaisical interest in diagnosing my medical condition? I'm concerned that if the mass effect is caused by cancer, we are wasting precious time for early diagnosis. Please give me your opinion on my situation as I want to be proactive, though not unreasonable and I would like to know if my egregious worry for the last month has been founded or ignorant. Thank you for reading this. All the best - Alby |
