Oh my. I know very little. All I know is that it is inherited due to a recessive gene, and it causes deafness or slow hearing loss, and also retinitis pigmentosa. What a terrible thing to have. And how in the world would people know they carry the recessive gene??? I guess they'd have to be tested before having children, but even then -- how would they know before that? They'd have to know their whole family history going back generations? And how many of us know THAT?
If this has effected you and your family, I'm so very sorry. It breaks my heart to think of some poor child effected with this disease. But at the same time, I think of Helen Keller who beat both blindness and deafness -- so with the right attitude, and if the child is brought up so that they're not pampered, it can be beat! God bless and please take care. Hugs, Lee
