I can't tell you how many times something that will get better on it's own and HAS is suddenly this Major disease!!
I have come to the conclusion that Doctors { the Medical Community } are just LOOKING for opportunities to MILK you and me. If you have insurance SUDDENLY a sore part of your anatomy needs surgery. When if you left it alone and just rested it instead of continuing to use it it would heal. You hurt your wrist doing something and all of a sudden you have Carpal Tunnel when it's just an injury. Your knee hurts, you need a new kneecap. Your hip aches, you need a new joint. You get the idea. My Mum had the exact same knee problem I have, it's genetic. SHE had the surgery when she was younger than I am now. She told me it was worse AFTER the surgery and wished she never had it done. I injured mine and had the same symptoms she had and I just got off of it and it healed and now I do knee strengthening exercises and it's much improved. I feel very strongly about this. Once they CUT you you have compromised your body's ability to heal itself. Anyone else feel this way?? |

I have the same suspicion, but I also feel that way about all the prescription medication doled out these days. My husband injured his back a few years ago, and it was discovered he has large spurs on his vertebra and several slipped and herniated discs. We have no private insurance, so he has to rely on the VA for his healthcare. They gave him pain pills, but had to add several other medications to counteract the side effects, including anti-depressants because they said the pain pills can cause depression. His pain is just as bad as it was when he first injured his back. The only difference is he's on numerous medications and dealing with nasty side effects. When he complains of the side effects, they either change the dosage or give him more prescriptions. I have a strong feeling they care NOTHING about my husband's welfare. I suspect they get paid for each visit to the VA and for each prescription written. I have no idea now if his symptoms are signs of serious disease or just side effects of medication. In his case, he needs surgery - but the VA makes more money by giving him drugs. |

I agree with both of you wholeheartedly. Ever notice how something like 30% of all kids today have so-called ADD/ADHD? How about how many of them are dependent on drugs to help "control" it (many of whom are not much better), yet no one ever pushes to find out why they have it??
I think the same can be said about autism, and my son was dx'ed with it 10 years ago. He also has a brain malformation, Chiari, yet no one I have talked to, including neurosurgeons, believes the Chiari has anything to do with the autism. How the H3LL can it not?? So many of our (autistic) kids have very different signs and symptoms, yet no one seems to be willing to explore different causes. Why is that?? Really sad... LIZARD |

As far as "Drugging" kids to control their behavior. Has anyone thought that Maybe the kids just need someone? I know when my iguanas are flailing around and acting up, I know you think this is a bad analogy but we are ALL animals basically, that if I just hold them and talk to them that seems to calm them down. They may be acting up because they are basically afraid and don't know what the hell to do with themselves. once they are calm I put them in a warm tub or feed them. Takes their mind off their previous fear. Music too is a wonderful way to calm the beasts. I have dogs barking in my head alot and playing soothing music helps.
Watch "One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest". Perfect example. They drug the patients so they are managable. Aren't they doing that to the kids?? I think kids are drugged to control them for the people around them. Also about back pain. I am almost 60 and have had MANY times when I had debilitating back pain. My sister who is now 73 has had back surgery. I think when we understand the vertebrae and how it works and what can happen in there we are better able to treat our backs better and take care of problems by stopping whatever we are doing that is causing the problem { pain } and REST and give it a chance to heal itself. for some reason the medical community doesn't adhere to the prospect that REST will help. They say "Oh sure, keep on working." That's so they can pump you full of pain pills so you continue to aggravate the situation so they can talk you in to surgery later. BIG BUCKS!!! I don't trust doctors. |

Well, I can tell you that in the case of autism, it involves a lot more than just needing someone, but I see your point. Many kids dx'ed with things like ADHD simply need structure, positive reinforcement, allergy treatment or better sleep, or other things that don't involve psychotropic drugs. It's really sad that so many doctors out there seem to be more interested in the perks they get from drug companies for prescribing their meds than in the overall welfare of the child. I was told numerous times that behavioral drugs would help my son. He takes nothing but Claritin for allergies, and he's doing wonderfully, due to an intensive behavioral program. If rhis country would focus more on addressing the behaviors and the reasons for them, we'd have much healthier kids. It's a dam* shame.
