Unhappy A Form Of Dwarfism!..........................

My neice that is only 5 months old right now, was just diagnosed with a form of dwarfism.I can't remember the exact medical name for it,but she's just so precious and tiny, and I'm scared for her. We know how a lot of society looks at the "Little People",and makes fun of them, thinks they belong in the circus, and things like that.I can't even imagine someone making fun of my neice, and how I'd react if I saw it.I'd probably end up putting them in the hospital! But I'm afraid for her both emotionally and medically, because her body won't grow to full size ,but her organs will, and it will cause her health problems.I don't get why she has to deal with this she's just a innocent little baby!
Does anybody else here have a friend or relative that is a small person like that, that is okay, and is living a good life, and is not being hurt so bad, just so my mind could be at ease a little about this?

(((((((((((((((((Justice))))))))))))))))).

I'm so sorry... Is it achondroplasia? That's the only form I know of, but I know there are others. At least it can give you a place to start in looking for info.

I did know a girl in college who was immensely popular. She had some form of dwarfism (not sure which one), so this little one's life may not be so bad. I know what you mean, though. I was picked on mercilessly as a kid for my hydro, and as my son enters our local jr. high, I fear the same for him. Thank God for disability awareness! It's made bullying and ostracism uncool, so she'll likely be protected by most people.

Have you watched the popular TV show "Little People, Big World"? It is on the TLC channel and shows a family in which both parents have a form of dwarfism and they have 4 children, one who has it as well and he is a twin. It may give you a better more positive idea of what life can be like for a Little Person.

Thumbs Up What A Trip!..........................

What a trip, yesterday, right after I logged off,and shut down my laptop.I went to turn on the TV,and that show that you were telling me about,"Little People,Big World"was on,so I watched it for the first time, and it really helped me see, that they really aren't so helpless after all.People did stare, but it was on TV,so they were probably staring at all the camera's rolling! But it was such a touching show! Thanks for referring that to me,cause I wouldn't have just thought of it on my own!

I really enjoy that show. It helps to show people that just because your a little person you are still just a person like everyone else. They go through the same troubles with raising kids and I like how the parents encourage them that even though they are little they can do anything they put their mind to. Did you know that the dad spent most of his younger years in the hospital? That is why he makes his farm so much fun. I would like to meet them in person someday. ...Sue

OK I am rambled and didn't say what I wanted to say. Shows like that are such a learning tool for the young people today. They can see them on TV and hopefully not be afraid of them or make fun of them. That is another reason that I am for special needs kids to be in the regular school system. So that everyone can see that people are different and that is not a bad thing.

I agree, and it was such a cute show to.I'll probably start watching it more,it was really touching watching how this family really helped eachother out,and stuck together as a family. It really helped me to not worry about my nieces condition so much, because I know that her mom,and dad,and big brother would be there for her as well!

Hi! I watch LPBW also and it is really a good family show.. It has also brought awareness to the fact that "Little" people are just like you and me, only of smaller stature.... I think that show has opened alot of eyes....

Your niece will be loved and alot of regular size people don't have that...

take care......

That's true, with as big of a family as I have, she sure won't be lacking in the love department. She's got 8 uncle's,and 8 aunt's,and I lost count on how many cousins she's got,and a Grandmother that will spoil her to no end! Plus her Dad,and Mom will love her to death, and she has a big brother, she's only 5 months old right now,and her brother is 3 1/2,and he already protects her,and loves her to death,so she'll have him by her side to!I just wish she didn't have to go through it,because emotionally, she'll notice she's different, and physically she may have some medical problems over it,that's what they told my brother! I know one thing though,I'll stick up for her, even if it lands me in jail,I won't let anyone get away with teasing her,if I see it,you don't want to know what I'll do to that person!

I had a room-mate in college with some form of dwarfism (don't remember which) who really helped me get used to living away from home. She was ace. (And scary-smart, doing her masters in Geography).
