Default Nepal: Seizure and Eosinophilia

Hello,

I am a medical person from Europe, living in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Am not in a medical environment anymore, so seeking discussion though the internet might be helpful.

A till date healthy 13 years old girl from a children`s home which is under my care, presented with a seizure 2 days ago. CT-scan is normal, might be repeated.

Eosinophil count is remarkably high with 88%
Leucocytosis 17.000.

Report of recurring headaches since April, otherwise no symptoms/no irregular findings.

Search for parasites is ongoing
Last Stool Test in May - normal findings
On Albendazole 400mg once/year since 2004

Any ideas on seizure plus eosinophilia ?

Thank you,

Petra

O.K., it is Neurocysticercosis, tape worm larva confirmed by CT-scan.

Seizure treatment with Carbamazepine, probably for 2 years.

Thank you,

Petra
