I have been struggling for several months now with a physical pain in my head as well as a "block" in a certain brain region (front part) and decline in cognitive ability.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Sorry if this is in the wrong section. If there were toxins in the brain (say, for example, from lyme disease) - what mechanisms would the brain activate to protect itself? Several months ago I began to feel a "block" in my head in addition to a weird "juicy" feeling flowing through the center bace of my head. Gradually, I developed brain fog, trouble concentrating, etc. Also consistent pain in lower, center base of head. Eventually, I started to literally feel "toxins" flowing through my brain - this was also triggered by trying to detox with niacin to try and help the problem. Then, one day, an area in the front part of my head (behind forehead) went numb. It literally felt like it had been "locked off." I tried to use that area of the brain, but could literally feel it being "blocked off" if that makes sense. Immediately when this happened - and ever since - I have not been able to focus on distant objects and also be aware of the surroundings, I have had almost zero sexual drive / pleasure, and I have lost my previously strong ability to relate objects / ideas / concepts. Also, major loss in problem solving ability. From what I am reading, it sounds like my front cortex has been blocked off OR the dopamine pathway has been blocked off. That was 2 months ago. Since then, I have gradually loss "contact" with the area and can no longer even feel the block - but it is still not in use. 1. What could cause this to happen? 2. Any thoughts on how it could possibly be fixed? 3. How does the brain protect itself in the case of toxins; can it lock off an area and how does it do that? 4. If an area is locked off, how does the brain maintain thought processes / connections when the area cannot be utilized (I feel as if, if the area were to open up, I would still have most of my connections to that area... though likely many have been lost as well) I still have hope that I can recover the area... but that hope keeps diminishing. I am hopefully getting a SPECT scan soon. I'm young (age 23). No, its not stress or something with a psychiatric route cause. Also - for neurotransmitters - no matter how much dopamine activity is increased, it does not effect the block and reopen that area of my brain. Sorry for the long post. I hope this is the right section. Thanks! |

Hi nycaccount2014
It might help if you got your GP to refer you to a specialist neurologist. A neurologist will be able to carry out detailed clinical investigations and (depending on the results of those), discuss treatment options with you. All the best. |
