Angry undiagnosed condition

I've been having some crazy visual issues that I thought could be a possible retina detachment, but when I went to the ophthalmologist everything was in perfect condition, including my vision (20/20). So they referred me to neurology, where I had an emergency MRI(1week wait time) and the results were perfectly normal. I think because of that I can assume its a psychiatric disease, but I can't pin it to anything. Thought I could get your opinion. Here are my symptoms: Extreme visual snow, the black version of it, night blindness because of buildup of visual snow and curtain over eye, depersonalization, memory issues for recent things, ( days to weeks ) , issues telling what day it is or how much time has passed, ( i constantly find myself thinking its Friday when it is actually Tuesday ), troubles remembering words and spelling words where I have had no problems with before, and probably the most important symptom of them all : hallucinations. Visual and Auditory. The auditory hallucinations are not inside my head, but not outside of my head. They are voices I can't recognize, and they feel as if they are circling my head. This doesn't happen every night, but it does happen throughout the week. The visual hallucinations happen almost every day at night, I see shadow figures coming at me and if I look at them they disappear. An example would be 2 nights ago where I saw a shadowy head near my far window, then a figure to my right. If I looked at the figure to my right, the head would come closer to me, if I looked at the head, it would disappear and the figure to my right would come closer to me. So I would have to constantly look at both. I have had hallucinations where a shadowy hooded figure has came from above me and swooped down to me. I've had visual hallucinations where my door is tilted and moving, the ceiling and walls seem to be breathing, and the floor does not seem real. I had a visual hallucination where I saw an arm come out of my arm, and feed me steak from a bowl that was not there. As if it was a hologram. I am 16 years old. What could this be??

Also I have had two tactile hallucinations, one where it felt like there were insects on my right arm, and one where a hand touched my hair.

Hello and welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.
I'm wondering if you've seen any other doctors besides the eye doctor and neurologist.

Have you explained exactly what is happening to your parents? These episodes must be very concerning to you and it would be really important to tell your parents or a family member that you trust so that you can find out why they're happening.

I could suggest asking over on PsychCentral Forums as well although you would also need to register there separately.

Also, are you taking any medications at all?

Hi dethreal

Welcome to the NeuroTalk/PsychCentral community .

Those hallucinations sound pretty scary to me .

As Lara has suggested, talking with your parents is a good plan.

It might help if you got to see a psychiatrist who will be able to work with you to figure out what is happening and then suggest ways of sorting it out.

All the best.

I just had another thought.
Some of the symptoms you've mentioned can occur with Epilepsy.
Maybe you could ask the members on the
Epilepsy Forum
about this.

You poor thing! This must be horrifying for you.
If you don't feel comfortable telling an adult in your life, parents, foster parents, aunt, uncle, older brother or sister....please tell someone at your school, a teacher you feel close to or the school nurse. This is way too much for a 16 yr old to handle alone. You are very, very smart to have found your way to this forum and we will help you all we can.

I have something called Lyme Disease and I had alot of very bizarre visual issues and some hallucinations prior to being diagnosed. I thought I was having a nervous breakdown. I felt very lost and alone until I was treated with antibiotics and most of the visual problems and all the hallucinations went away.

Here is a document written by a doctor who treated Lyme Disease for decades in New York. Look under symptoms to see what matches to what you have. Also, as mentioned, you may have a seizure disorder that is causing these issues.

Here is the Lyme paper

Please let us know what we can do to help you.
All my best,
Diandra

p.s. feel free to send me a private message if you want.

Thanks everyone for replying. I'm on no medication, i have written 9 journals, describing 9 nights of the hallucinations. Ill head over to psychtalk when i get the chance. So basically my summary of whats been going on is below
shadow people/figures that go away when looked at, but come back if i look away
extreme visual snow to the point where if i look at an area almost my entire visual field is black
voices in/out of my head that feel as if they are circling my head
tactile hallucinations - insects on arm, hand through hair
memory issues - trouble remembering previous day
slight stutter where one was not there before
de personalization due to hallucinations
I want to say paranoia also but i dont know if that would be correct.

Hi again.

Just for your information, there are also hallucinations associated with a sleep.

You could check those out - hypnagogic hallucinations and hypnopompic hallucinations although they usually happen in the period of time when you're not quite asleep but not really awake. They're very common apparently but can be frightening if you don't know what they are.

Please do talk to your parents or guardians.
