Default 7 "Healthy" Foods That Cause Inflammation

Just heard the Prolotherapy MD I hear on weekend radio and he trys to help people in pain with diet as well. He says oatmeal is pro inflammation. I have been off oatmeal for some months now and keep yogurt consumption down too. Anyway, there are many conflicting pieces of information on this and one can decide:

www.globalhealingcenter.com › Blog Home › Food
Nov 26, 2012 - It's not surprising that “unhealthy” food can cause inflammation, but it might ... eating oats can lead to a chain reaction that causes inflammation.

When you get the link open, go to the search bar and type in 7 Healthy Foods That.......

Dr. Perricone's list of pro inflammatory foods:

http://www.oprah.com/.../Dr-Perricon...-Pro-Inflammat...
Oprah Winfrey
Dr. Perricone's list of pro-inflammatory foods, which he says accelerate the aging process. ... including 100% whole grain bread, brown rice or steel-cut oats.

I just held my pendulum over a little bowl of oatmeal and I got a negative swing. So it's anyone's guess. I'm staying off all grains anyway for a while...how long, don't know.

I had to search for the articles found this...

http://www.globalhealingcenter.com/n...-inflammation/
7 Healthy Foods that cause inflammation

It goes into more detail about the reasons *some* people may have problems.

I certainly don't have any problems with yoghurt ever but if I eat yoghurt I am very careful with what I buy. Same with oatmeal. I don't have a problem with oatmeal at all but then I don't have coeliac disease either.

Some rice I find ok [basmati and brown] but I never eat regular old white rice anyway. He's talking about highly processed white rice. Tomatoes... I suspect maybe a problem for me but not if I grow or buy the low acid tomatoes. He didn't mention cabbage family that I noticed and I suspect I may have a problem with that unfortunately.

I find his list somewhat misleading. He should have called it 7 healthy foods that may cause inflammation in some people.

This may be the 2nd link you posted from Oprah show site but I'm not sure.
http://www.oprah.com/health/Dr-Perri...ammatory-Foods
Dr-Perricones List of Pro Inflammatory Foods

That's a very long list of similar foods - his basic idea is to stay away from sugar and flour products.

Everyone is different I guess. Anti inflammatory diets are talked about on a lot of the forums here for various reasons including recovery from illness or trauma. I know people who can't eat certain types of foods and I can eat them with no problem at all. It seems a very individual thing to me and often depends on other health conditions a person may already be dealing with.

---------

May I ask what a negative swing over oatmeal means?
Is this a quartz crystal or something?

Caroline, thanks for posting this link; www.globalhealingcenter.com .

As far as I can see from looking at that site, it is owned by "Dr" Edward F. Group III.

Apparently he has a "MD" qualification from the School of Medicine of the Joseph LaFortune University. The Joseph LaFortune University is an unaccredited entity, based in Haiti - its "MD" qualification is not recognised.

In my opinion it would not be prudent to place much weight on "Dr" Group's recommendations.

The negative (counterclockwise) swing says the oatmeal is not good for me. My pendulum is on a metal chain with 7 colored stones down the chain which ends with a rose quartz pendulum at the end.

I believe using a pendulum merely brings out our own intuitives on things...foods, supplements, events, people etc.

Thanks for re-posting the above links. I believe many many have chronic inflammation in our bodies. Foods are the big offenders.

kiwi, I don't place my life's weight on the pendulum. These dowsers have been used for decades by many. It's fun, interesting and does help to eliminate some issues I might have... I have no fear and take it all with a grain of salt and often pleasantly surprised with predictions I've gotten. Very much like kineosology (muscle testing)...I know several forms of Muscle Testing...

Being relatively new here, I didn’t think I’d find a post like this one. Nutrition is a serious topic that benefits from continuing scientific research. In my own case, I select foods based on their taste and nutritional content, not on my intuition. All I can add is that I wouldn’t choose my foods based on advice from my pendulum, but that’s just me.

I like your observation, Lara. When choosing foods myself, I don’t consciously think about inflammation. I usually try to eat a wide variety of different foods and always in very small portions. I think one of the worst things for your health is to visit an all-you-can-eat cafeteria and then do everything you can to get your money’s worth.

Audrey, I've eliminated breads, rolls, muffins, bagels and cerals from my foods and don't miss them and oatmeal does not appearl to me anymore so I have not eaten it for a while, work with proteins mostly for breakfast. I like the pendulum work and it's OK if other's do not. I know I get plenty of carbs as the soup I'm making right now is full of veggies which are carbs.

I've also been doing a lot or reading/hearing about two popular books which are big today: Wheat Belly and Grain Brain and hear Dr. Perlmutter on radio and PBS TV, he wrote the Grain Brain book.
