Default Strange vague symptoms

Hi all,

Im a bit lost as to whats going on with me and the symptoms ive been getting so thought it would be worth posting here to see if anyone has any ideas.

The symptoms are very hard to describe but I will do my best. I have been suffering with an anxiety disorder and possible PTSD for a few years now so the symptoms may well be caused by that but also may not be as they often dont feel related.

So the vague symptoms feel like my brain is somehow disorientated or somehow somwhere else other than in my current reality in this moment. When I move parts of my body I can see and sense that im moving them but its like my brain thinks something else is going on. Its like my brain is trying to make me do different movments. Im trying to focus on doing basic tasks but my brain is somewhere else in some random termoil. I sometimes struggle to sense where my limbs are or feel like they are not part of me. Sometimes this underlying random termoil gets so bad I feel like im struggling to know how to move my limbs. Its all very confusing, my brain just feels like a complete mush and I cannot think or make sense of anything.

Sorry the description is so vague, its hard to put into words. It feels like my brain is all jumbled up and trying to pattern match or close something off and its somehow in my awareness where as it would usually be in the subconscious or doing this while im asleep. Im conciously trying to function and focus while this stuff is intruding and confusing everything.

It could be down to anxiety and traumas that my brain is trying to get through and I hope it is that and its a process that will pass but at the moment it does really feel like something is malfunctioning.

Does anyone have any ideas or experienced anything similar? Thanks for reading.

Hi parttime,
Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups.

Have you ever read about or heard about depersonalization? Depersonalization and derealization can be present in some people with severe anxiety as far as I know.

Check the symptoms on the link below and see if anything there sounds familiar.

Mayo - depersonalization and derealization

Thanks Lara, yes I have read about those and have suffered with them and still often do but this feels like something entirley different in my opinion.

I should also add that I suffered with persistent pressure heacaches with intermitent sharp pains and severe brain fog and poor cognition. I had an MRI due to these about 5 months ago, this came back as normal. These headaches have deminished greatly over the past month or so and thag is also when these symptoms in my origjnal post have cropped up and got really intense so I dont know if they are somehow related.

I sometimes get that feeling regarding my limbs as well. It is only when my usual anxiety turns to panic. I just thought I should mention that as it sounded familiar.

Just some more thoughts...

You mention headaches as well. Have you ever had any tests for seizures or checked for migraine?

If I were you I'd ask over on the

Epilepsy Forum
includes seizure disorders

You could also check out

Headache Forum
[including migraine]

There's a Forum Search Feature at the top of each page. You could maybe check that using specific keywords.

I hope you find some answers.

These symptoms seem to be there pretty much all of the time even when not anxious. No I havent been tested for any sort of seizure and im not sure how they test for migranes but I have had a brain MRI which was clear/normal. My headaches seem to have cleared up significantly where as these othed symptoms have increased to now being there all the time.

Something else to add which I dont know if anyone will be able to relate to but another part of the symptom is confusion on basic tasks or wording so for example I sometimes do things that make no sense like trying to open the fridge with my keys but the fridge requires no keys or going to brush my teeth with the toothpaste tube before realising what im doing and I need a toothbrush or thinking I can turn the light off with the tv remote or using words in the wrong place. Just really strange cofusing brain lapses that dont make sense, its like my brain is on auto pilot and gets things mixed up and I snap out of it just as im doing it and realise what im doing.

Anyone have any ideas on what this could be?

Hi Parttime,

I am sorry you have been struggling with these symptoms.

Lara has done a great job of covering some possibilities.
I hope you have looked into the ones she has mentioned.

I would also encourage you to consider an EEG, with the type(s) of EEG to be determined by a Neurologist and/or in collaboration with a Neuropsychologist.

You may also benefit from a thorough Neuropsych evaluation. These types of evaluations can help to look at brain functioning, etc.

In addition, I am encouraging you to try some "grounding exercises."
Here's a list of simple "grounding exercises" offered by Andrew Weil. M.D.
https://www.livingwell.org.au/well-b...ing-exercises/

There are also other types of grounding exercises available on youtube and on various sites online.

You may also find a particular breathing exercise grounding, centering and it may also help you with clear thinking. I had recently posted this in a different forum. This breathing exercise is offered by Andrew Weil, M.D.

http://www.drweil.com/drw/u/VDR00112...nstration.html

You will find additional breathing exercises at various sites online.
We have started a thread of breathing exercises in the Anxiety/OCD forum.
You are welcome to join in on that thread as well. Please post any breathing exercises you'd like to share.

I hope these exercises help you out. It may take some time of regular practice. I'd encourage you to also continue your quest for an explanation for your symptoms via the testing mentioned.

I hope something helps you in a significant way.

Warmly,
DejaVu
