Default Need Dermatologist Opinion?

I'm greek, with light olive colored skin, and very dark hair. I also suffer from folliculitis. I am wondering if DIY laser hair removal is a better option for me, but was unsure with my skin color, and thick dark hair. Please advise if I could be a good candidate for this?
