I guess many know how much I talk about OPC's and as I said the reason I started on them in 1995, we were told "May" prevent cancer(s).
I've been watching a thread of many doing the colonoscopies and I have never done one nor do I plan to. I'm sure my mind is engrained in the "may" prevent cancer comment on the OPC's. I've lived with that comment for over two decades. Many cancer research centers are using OPC's in their research...city of hope, mayo, univ of maryland....and others. Here is a link I don't think I read before last night. http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/255182.php Very interesting. |

It is possible that OPCs may be protective against cancer.
In the specific context of bowel cancer, as part of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Program, here most people who are over 50 get a free Faecal Occult Blood Test (FOBT) kit - the results are sent off to a pathology lab for analysis. If anything of concern is revealed an investigative colonoscopy is highly recommended as is, for people over 50, a FOBT every two years. Bowel cancer shows classical staging. The prognosis is very good for people with Duke's Stage A and very poor for those with Duke's Stage D. Early detection (with a FOBT as the first step, followed by a colonoscopy if indicated) is very important.

As a Colorectal Cancer survivor I found this of great interest. I wonder what advances and further testing has been done since the original Report.
Dave.

I believe this is the hospital in Phoenix AZ that integrates conventional and integrative cancer treatments. Dave, I don't know where more research has gone, there are not millions of dollars into alternative medicines as pharma can't patent them. How the industry chooses which to get on board with is beyond me. I know this OPC has been in existence for decades, from Europe. A long history.

Dave, the study which Caroline linked is very interesting.
However, it is a study of cancer cells grown in tissue culture, which is fine but is just the first step. From a PubMed search there are a few other examples of this kind of experiment out there. The next step will be to see if OPCs can kill cancer cells or halt cancer progression in animal models and, if so, move on to trials in people.
