Steve,
A voice of reason to be reckoned with...not unlike the wisdom expressed in the Bobby quote that you use...my personal favorite.

Here is what DocJohn posted on August 11
Quote:
On July 20, 2006, Braintalk.org seems to have gone offline and hasn’t been seen since. The message announcing its hardware/software failure hasn’t been updated.

Anybody have any word or update as to its status? With a large community of over 50,000 members, such a long downtime is virtually unheard of these days of cheap servers and storage space…

If anybody knows anything, we’re happy to lend a technical hand to get them back online and operational.

What I am hearing is an offer to help not to take over. I appreciate what DocJohn has done here.

Thanks mama..Ive thought about changing that quote a couple of times, but it has stuck in my head ever since I heard Bobby Kennedy say it, and for us with Parkinsons and our caregivers, we certainly need to think out of the box to summon the hope that medical science will one day end this nightmare for us all..

I think it was a gesture of kindness and caring to put this board up...as a temporary site...until BrainTalk resolves its issues. Clearly, many people depend on such support, and have been lost without it.

DocJohn says this:

Quote:
Hi folks,

We set up this temporary set of forums so you can continue gaining support from friends online while the original BrainTalk resolves its technical issues.

Please feel free to use this place as much as you'd like, and let me know if you need anything else.

DocJohn
This is an interim solution until JL can get BrainTalk up and running....and we hope it will be back with all of our back posts chock full of good information. I'd hate to have to start over again!

I think apprecation is appropriate! There hadn't been any update in over a month...for something stated would take days. I think many people are greatly relieved to be able to talk to one another again!

Thank you Doc John for your willingness to help.

Let me just confirm what people have said --

We have only setup this set of forums as a temporary place until the original Braintalk comes back online. I know John Lester professionally, have been involved in some of the same work as he has, but I too have not been able to get any word from him (which may very well be because he's traveling).

So given that it's been a month, and I hate to see communities such as Braintalk suffer because of a technical glitch, I thought I'd lend a hand by putting up this one. (I should also note that the colors/format of this forum looks a lot like BT because it's the default colors/setup for the forum software!)

I will reiterate -- we have no intentions of keeping these forums running once the original BT is back online and running. I just wanted to lend a hand because that's one of the good things I do online -- understand online communities and technology and ensure both run smoothly!

Best,
DocJohn

Gosh...I think most places have internet for travelers, don't they?

Heck, even if there isn't internet...JL is technologically advanced enough to conjure up an internet connection with just a gum wrapper & power cord

Thanks again DocJohn!!

Thumbs up I agree with everyone, who said,...

"Let's be grateful, we have a place to re-connect & share".

Amen!!!! This is no time to get paranoid about motives. There are still good guys roaming the earth, willing to give a stranger shelter from a storm. Besides, nobody in their right mind would want to "take over" this huge dysfunctional group.
