Thumbs Up Sleep Inertia

I finally have been able to put a name on it. This horrible feeling I get when I first wake up either from a nap or in the morning, Sleep Inertia. You can read about it here:

Sleep inertia - Wikipedia

I've been asking and asking what this is and finally saw this on a tv show and looked it up because it sounded like what I get.

Now that I understand what it is I am sometimes better to deal with it.

Question

I was thinking maybe it might be a good idea to get some Excedrin, it has caffeine in them? What do you think? Take one when I first wake up??

When I wake up in the morning, I feel like I was hit by a truck. I drink black tea at breakfast &, as the morning wears on, I begin to feel a bit more "normal". By around noon, I'm in about as good shape as I'm probably going to be. Fortunately I'm retired so I don't have to "function". But even years ago, when I was working, I felt more-or-less the same. I was just younger then & better able to fight through it. Sorry... I can't speak to the idea of taking an Excedrin.

Years ago; especially when my children were quite young or while I was working, I needed at least 2 cups of coffee before I could my day started. Until my coffee, I use to feel half-asleep for quite some time (I also had sleeping difficulties); unfortunately mornings were my best time to sleep.......

My experience with Excedrin was also years ago......
One night, while experiencing a bit of a headache before going to bed; I took an Excedrin. That night I especially was having an awful night trying to get my mind to stop running with thoughts, etc. I felt like I had 10 cups or more of coffee. I got up and looked at the Excedrin label.......CAFFEINE ...and plenty of it. That was when Excedrin was fairly new on the market. Excedrin would also cause me to get extremely hyper;... no more Excedrin;.... especially in the evening.

Tongue

I got some today. It seems to have helped me a bit. But I took it when I got home from shopping not when I first woke up. It made me feel more normal and calmer. I'll try it again tomorrow. Just one with my coffee in the morning. I don't think I want to take them later in the day though.

It's a good thing to have some around if I get a migraine they work really well.

Red face

Well, I've been taking the Excedrin, one, in the morning with my coffee. It does help to wake me up a bit more but not all that much. I find it give me stomach problems though so I must eat something first, like toast or a bagel. I haven't taken it every morning just on the ones I feel exceptionally bad on.

Not a permanent fix but it helps a little.
