Question Undiagnosed neurological condition - is it common?

Hello,

My partner has an undiagnosed neurological condition. Doctors ruled out all the 'common' diseases and said they could do more testing but whatever it would turn up being, would be incurable anyway.

I find it hard to accept that and I wish it was properly diagnosed so I'd know "how it will end" and I can prepare myself ahead, but my partner doesn't want to, which I respect.

How often is it that neurological conditions go undiagnosed?

Symptoms my partner has are: difficulties in swallowing, shaking hands and body, pain in right leg when going up stairs or walking too much, neurons "firing" painfully in right leg and arm, general body pain, painful reaction to being touched 'lightly', loss of sense of moisture, temperature and touch in certain part of their body, and I've seen their whole body 'twist' uncontrollably for a few seconds once but apparently it's happened before a few times.

I don't know anything about neurological conditions but what they're going though is sufficiently much that I wish it had a 'name' so I could read about it and truly understand what's going on...

Thank you

Hi Tattle

Welcome to NeuroTalk - I hope that you will find that community as knowledgeable and supportive as I have .

I am sorry to read about your partner. While it is good that the doctors have ruled out some things I am unable to follow their alleged reasoning that "they could do more testing but whatever it would turn up being, would be incurable anyway" - this seems totally evidence-free to me.

I hope that other NT members will recognise some of your partner's clinical signs and post ideas here. That could help you and your partner to prod his/her doctors to do a bit more.

Best wishes.

Thumbs Up

Hi Kiwi33,

Thank you for your response! My partner doesn't want to talk about it much, and they rather I didn't discuss it with friends either so I feel alone and in the dark a lot of the time.

Yes I don't think my partner has seen good/encouraging/positive doctors and
although they don't want to know more about their condition, I certainly do because I can't help thinking there might be things that could help them. Maybe massage or physio exercice... not sure of course.

Thank you again Would love to get input from other members of the community
