Default Allodynia

My allodynia is kicked off by my sense of smell. Anyone else have this type? Help.

Hi Lync,
Welcome to Neurotalk.

Firstly, as you mentioned odour as a trigger, i'm wondering if you also get migraines or if your allodynia is related to migraines, or if your doctors have ever talked to you about migraines? Not sure what you mean about the soap.

I really just wanted to leave some information for you in case it was helpful.

Central Sensitization

Central Sensitization - two main characteristics.
allodynia and hyperalgesia

I'm new to texting. Bare with me
I have been diagnosed with allodynia not compatible with hyper alg. Not consider told if this is tare part of this disease. I reacact to any most any type of soap products. Not know if this is actually tactile or smells. Got exposed to gasoline on Sundays and it gave me severe burning. Used the only soap able to use that night. Extreme reaction. Maybe soap, on top of already existing burn (my term for symptoms). Soooo, now I don't know if I need to try to find a new brand of soap. I keep having reactions to products I have been using for a long time. My ability to function in my own home, not even taking into consideration outside world, is getting smaller and smaller. I've been putting gas in my car always. Allodynia since 2014. Just over last 6 months can no longer do this. This situation keeps happening over and over. No explanation for this. Don't know if I need to find new soap. I can try same soap have same severe reaction. I don't know what to do! Is this message to long? Do not know rules. Also do you take Gabapentin? If so may I ask how much? Thanks for answering my post.

Hi lync,
I only know about Allodynia because it is a potential side-effect of a medication that I have to take every 3 weeks by infusion so prior to each infusion I am asked a long series of question pertaining to side-effects.

Basically, I would try a process of elimination. Try a soap that is unscented and doesn't contain sodium lauryl sulfate. That's the chemical in most soaps that makes it lather.

Nearly all my adult life I've used Dr Bronner's castille liquid soap. It's made from vegetable oils and doesn't contain the sodium lauryl sulfate. It comes scented and unscented.

The problem with the gas/petrol is concerning. Is there someone who can fill up your car for you?

I'm sorry that you're dealing with this so badly. Maybe it's time to get another Doctor's opinion if that's possible.

You posted just fine, by the way.

There is also a forum for allergies and multiple chemical sensitivities.
