I'm so sorry you're having this problem, vomiting isn't an enjoyable symptom.
I'm no Doctor, but I have to agree with the other poster who mentioned lyme disease. The syndromes and symptoms you describe are CLASSIC lyme and co-infection mis-diagnosis'. Sounds like reflux caused by a hiatal hernia. I have one, I bloat and my gut's puffed out huge mosta the time and the hernia makes me choke, it kinda feels like ur stomach's in your throat. I have acid reflux really bad, sometimes vomit stomach acid & blood. Dietary changes are needed, gaviscon helps, and elevating your head of your bed 6", no food too close to bedtime, losing some weight, even 5 pounds can help, and since you already have IBS, I'm glad you're gonna check this out. You might have ulcers, C-Deficile, any number of things...or a tummy bug. Guts are miserable beaties aren't they!? Can't live with em, can't live without 'e,! I wish you the very best & hope you start feelng lots better!!!
Take care! Hugs! Critter P.S. when your back's out, does your gut plague you with pain, bloat, cramps, etc? Mine does...I wondered if others deal with that. It makes me have a lot of trouble breathing too & feel panicky because of it. |
Gastra
Hi - as Silverlady mentioned - a GI doc - a GOOD one - is a must! The fact you are vomiting old food suggests that your stomach is not processing it - and could be suffering from lack of normal contractions - which is called "gastroparesis".... Can have many causes - diabetes, nerve damage, post viral, or just idiopathic..... Its important that the doctor understand motility issues - I've had this for six years and live on liquids only with a combo of nausea and motility meds all day long... I had good docs in the beginning when I got it (I have neruopathy and that seems to be what caused it) - there are tests such as a gastric empty study, manometry, etc. that can look at if your stomach and intestines are pushing food thru correctly... Also, when was your last brain scan? Vomiting can also be caused by triggers there - and definately worth checking into asap.... (I lost 30 lbs in 2 months and sure could not afford more then 10) - after all these these years I've only been able to gain back 10 - so be agressive in trying to find treatment!!!! I hope you feel better.....

Have you been worked up for celiac disease yet? It can produce a lot of CFS-like symptoms!
UC San Diego has a good site on which tests to get for it. I am sorry you are having such unpleasant symptoms! |
I have Crohns and Celiac disease... I have this same problem from time to time. I would suggest a GI who specializes in Crohns or other digestive disorders. Good luck!
|
thank all of you for your responses. I saw my gastro (I really like him) the other day and here is the plan. He put me on AciFlux, tested me for celiac, and we are doing two procedures. One is the upper GI with X-Ray tract and the other is empty bowl series. I have one on Wednesday (the 16th) and the next one on Friday, perspectively.
Also, yes I have had surgery in the abdominal region. I have had a complete hysterectomy in '03. I do see my Gyn on the 16th as well. Not sure how I am going to work that out, but I don't want to cancel him. I would rather do the GI X-ray on Thursday the 17th. But I have to call the nurse to see if I can get it scheduled like that. I have also noticed that after I have sex, I get severe abdominal cramps. That to me doesn't make any sense since I was vacuumed out. (Sorry to put it so bluntly) Does anyone think this is related to the hysterectomy or the GI problem? Any ideas/comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for all your comments. You all are great. M |

I asked because I have had a few surgeries (GYN) which led to scar adhesions which led to a small bowel obstruction. My symptoms sound very similar to yours, during the painful period however, it is very severe pain that can radiate down to my thighs. After it's over, or dying down I will have diarrhea, loose bowels and/or gas. The only thing is, you didn't mention pain to the point I'd think that was it (because it HURTS bad). I have had surgery 3 times now due to complications from scar tissue. It's kind of stupid since getting it removed causes more scar tissue. Heh. It had gotten so bad I was afraid to get surgery to fix it because I was certain it would end up coming back a year or three later. My SBO and confirmation of scar tissue was diagnosed via Laparoscopy, they didn't remove it last time but they cut the two large bands of adhesions I had which were at risk for causing another obstruction. Anyway, it's hard telling what it is but your GI doc seems to be going into the right direction. I personally wouldn't recommend exploratory (laparoscopy) surgery unless it's the last course of action available. http://www.emedicine.com/emerg/topic66.htm Click link above for more information! :) |
