Dianne, I'm shocked to hear what has happened last night.
Take care of yourself there.

It has been taken out of my hand now they are going to put her back in jail for her on safety she doesn't belong in there she is not a criminal she has mental illness but this is the only way to protect her from herself it hurts me so much I feel that I have let her down, she means so much to me and I was not able to help her.

Hi Diane

Please don't feel as though you have let your daughter down - you have done everything within your capability to help and support her - even to the point of coming here and reaching out to strangers for information and advice. You haven't turned your back on her and walked away as some would have done - and she seems to know that as she came home earlier - even if she doesn't acknowledge your support she instinctively knows you are there for her.

She clearly is unable to manage her mental health condition by herself and although she may be temporarily safe in jail that is not a long term solution. As Lara mentioned a parent doesn't have much say in the care of an adult child. You may want to contact one of the organizations that Lara & Kiwi suggested and talk about options for having a guardian appointed (or some similar care attorney), for an adult patient. I'm not suggesting you take on the role yourself as it may add to your stress, but have someone who you can consult with, but who is familiar with the systems and can help manage her care when needed.

I'm sorry I can't give you specific info on the regulatory aspects of the Australian system (I'm in NZ) - and it's probably complex and confusing but contacting the organizations familiar with it will help you to figure out the best and quickest way to get help.

Take care. Please keep in touch and let us know how you and daughter are getting on.
