Question Treatment of Older/Old People............

I remember once when I was probably 14 or 15, I went to the store with my Mother. We we getting back in the car, loading bundles and this boy/man yelled something like "Hurry up you old bag" at my mother. I was insensed and yelled back at him some profanity, of which I got yelled at by her about. That as over 40 years ago and I STILL remember that incident.

Now that I'm older I can't help but feel what she must have felt at the time. I know we all have out time in the sun and we move on and get older/old. I think I am handling it alright but when I see Older people being mistreated it infuriates me still even as it did when I was a young girl.

WHY aren't older people respected? You'd think they WOULD be but for the most part they aren't. I know in different parts of the world they ARE but Why in America is getting older such a handicap??

Red face

Especially now too the way older people are victimized by crooks and criminals. I just watched on the news about a woman in her 70's being raped. it appears that a segment of the population is Targeting the old and frail. I think he also bopped her on the head and stole her money. Older folks have to be much more vigilent today about their safety. I never thought that at MY age I would buy a gun and take lessons on how to use it but with what I saw and see going on all around me it's better than NOT.

Ever seen News stories about the Pistol Packin Grandma?? I always admired them, they have such SPUNK. I am still afraid to fire my gun, it is actually behind my computer unloaded, the bullets are still in the box in my bedroom some 40 feet away. Big HELP that'll be if someone tries to break in here. I have had 2 attempted breakins here only in the past 3 years or so and I have been here 17 years. The Police came and got BOTH guys. They did advise me to have some kind of protection, that's when I bought a .38.

I know what you mean. A older lady got raped at a shopping center near me when I lived in a capital city. The police caught the perpetrators. Now there are police cars over there now parked in the shopping centers parking lot.

I too am armed in case I'm a victim of a home invasion. They started happening around 5 years ago. I have a pistol, and a few other deterrents, and a camera survalence system. I turn that system on when I leave. It's to bad. Our society has to many criminals, and It's better to be safe, then sorry. BF

Unhappy

When I told my sister, who is in her 70s and lived in rural Ohio, that I bought a gun, she was appalled and thinks of me as some kind of criminal. She wouldn't talk to me after that.

Also, when I told a friend that certain "People" gave me trouble EVERYTIME I went out, she called me Prejudice. I never had these problems with people of my own race, Never, EVER. Instead of understanding that there ARE evil people out there, she blamed me for Feeling how I do now after DOZENS of incidents. A few where I almost got hurt. I have certainly been pshycologically injured by these events. I have to PLAN the times I go out to when not many people are on the roads or in the stores, Mid week, Mid afternoon.
