5 members of my family have this autoimmune illness.
I have an autoimmune illness but the doctors cannot seem to agree on which one. Currently my dx is Multiple Sclerosis due to lesions on my MRI. In the past I have also been told I have Crohn's Disease, but my diareaha issues resolved when I stopped eatting processed food (bread, pasta, etc). I am being tested today to see if I have Hoshimoto's Disease. In the past (10 years ago) I was tested for gluten intolerence. The test was negative. |

I remember you from many years ago on BT...!
Yes, I have Hashimoto's thyroid disease (based on anti-TPO 900+), as do the majority of MY family! Both sisters, father, 5/6 aunts and uncles on my dad's sides, most cousins on that side, and my niece was just diagnosed this year... the first of this new generation. Diarrhea improving after removing breads and pasta sounds like probable gluten sensitivity to me! The blood tests are good but not perfect at detecting it. Also, ten years ago they were ignoring gluten sensitivity unless it was full blown celiac disease. That is beginning to change. I think you have probably already addressed the potential for B12 deficiency, something we used to spend a lot of time talking about.

The Test is a waste of time most times they will get a false positive. I you look at all of the symptoms like I did and you have them all then just stop using gluten. Read everthing before you put it in you mouth. I you feel better after lest say 3 months then - don't eat gluten because you have Celiacs. But just so you know you will feel much better and you may even loose some weight or at least some unwanted body fat if you give up all gluten and or flour products of any kind. If you can't go all the way do the best you can.
