06-01-2005 08:16 AM Butter, margerine, oil conversion I prefer to use oil to the others and have always flown by the seat of my pants. If the butter was to be melted, I was okay, but if not, it was touch and go. Because Starmist asked for a conversion chart, I ended up finding (completely by mistake) an oil conversion chart. Thanks Starmist! http://www.carapelliusa.com/chart.html Baking Conversion Chart 1 tsp...........3/4 tsp 1 tbspn...... 2 1/4 tsp 2 tbspns..... 1 1/2 tbspns 1/4 cup........3 tblspns 1/3 cup......... 1/4 cup 1/2 cup......... 1/4 cup + 2 tbspns 2/3 cup......... 1/2 cup 3/4 cup......... 1/2 cup + 1 tbspn 1 cup............ 3/4 cup

06-01-2005 08:28 AM Cake pan size conversions I never have the size they ask for. It's either being used or I'd rather use my springform so I don't have to do the "knife down the side and underneath, whilst praying it doesn't break up too much" thing. I tried to make it easy to read here, but honestly, the allrecipes site is much nicer than what I could do here. Also, U.S to metric conversions are in the next post down, so you may need to go there first... I've tried not to forget anyone. http://allrecipes.com/advice/ref/conv/pansizes.asp Cake Pan Size Conversions Recipe Calls For Volume Use Instead 1 (8 inch) round cake pan 6 cups 1 (8x4) inch loaf pan 1 (9 inch) round cake pan 1 (9 inch) pie plate 1 (11x7 inch) baking dish 2 (8 inch) round cake pans 12 cups 2 (8x4 inch) loaf pans 1 (9 inch) tube pan 2 (9 inch) round cake pans 1 (10 inch) Bundt pan 2 (11x7 inch) baking dishes 1 (10 inch) springform pan 1 (9 inch) round cake pan 6 cups 1 (8 inch) round cake pan 1 (8x4 inch) loaf pan 1 (11x7 inch) baking dish 2 (9 inch) round cake pans 12 cups 2 (8x4 inch) loaf pans 1 (9 inch) tube pan 2 (8 inch) round cake pans 1 (10 inch) Bundt pan 2 (11x7 inch) baking dishes 1 (10 inch) springform pan 1 (10 inch) round cake pan 11 cups 2 (8 inch) round cake pans 1 (9 inch) tube pan 1 (10 inch) springform pan 2 (10 inch) round cake pans 22 cups 4 (8 inch) round cake pans 3 or 4 (9 inch) round cake pans 2 (10 inch) springform pans 9 inch tube pan 12 cups 2 (9 inch) round cake pans 2 (8 inch) round cake pans 1 (10 inch) Bundt pan 1 (9 inch) tube pan 10 inch tube pan 16 cups 3 (9 inch) round cake pans 2 (10 inch) pie plates 2 (9 inch) deep dish pie plates 4 (8 inch) pie plates 2 (9x5 inch) loaf pans 2 (8 inch) square baking dishes 2 (9 inch) square baking dishes 10 inch Bundt pan 12 cups 1 (9x13 inch) baking dish 2 (9 inch) round cake pans 2 (8 inch) round cake pans 1 (9 inch) tube pan 2 (11x7 inch) baking dishes 1 (10 inch) springform pan 11x7x2 inch baking dish 6 cups 1 (8 inch) square baking dish 1 (9 inch) square baking dish 1 (9 inch) round cake pan 9x13x2 inch baking dish 15 cups 1 (10 inch) Bundt cake pan 2 (9 inch) round cake pans 2 (8 inch) round cake pans 1 (10x15 inch) jellyroll pan 10x15x1 inch jellyroll pan 15 cups 1 (10 inch) Bundt pan 2 (9 inch) round cake pans 2 (8 inch) round cake pans 1 (9x13 inch) baking dish 9x5 inch loaf pan 8 cups 1 (9x2 inch) deep dish pie plate 1 (10 inch) pie plate 1 (8 inch) square baking dish 1 (9 inch) square baking dish 8x4 inch loaf pan 6 cups 1 (8 inch) round cake pan 1 (11x7 inch) baking dish 8x1 1/4 inch pie plate 4 cups 1 (8 inch) round cake pan 9x1 1/4 inch pie plate 5 cups 1 (8 inch) round cake pan 1 (9 inch) round cake pan 9x2 inch pie plate (deep dish) 8 cups 2 (8 inch) pie plates 1 (10 inch) pie plate 1 (8 inch) square baking dish 1 (9 inch) square baking dish 1 (9x5 inch) loaf pan 10x1 1/2 inch pie plate 8 cups 2 (8 inch) pie plates 1 (8 inch) square baking dish 1 (9 inch) square baking dish 1 (9x5 inch) loaf pan 1 (9 inch) deep dish pie plate 9 inch springform pan 10 cups 1 (10 inch) round cake pan 1 (10 inch) springform pan 2 (8 inch) round cake pans 2 (9 inch) round cake pans 10 inch springform pan 12 cups 2 (8x4 inch) loaf pans 1 (9 inch) tube pan 2 (9 inch) round cake pans 1 (10 inch) Bundt pan 2 (11x7 inch) baking dishes 2 (8 inch) round cake pans 8 inch square baking dish 8 cups 1 (11x7) inch baking dish 1 (9x2 inch) deep dish pie plate 1 (9x5 inch) loaf pan 2 (8 inch) pie plates 9 inch square baking dish 8 cups 1 (11x7 inch) baking dish 1 (9x2 inch) deep dish pie plate 1 (9x5 inch) loaf pan 2 (8 inch) pie plates If you have an unusual pan size, and would like to find out the capacity, measure the amount of water it takes to fill the pan. Then compare it with the pans above to determine the substitution. For your cake to rise evenly, you should only fill this pan to the half-way mark with batter. The baking time may change as well, so it is imperative that you keep a watchful eye on your cake, and check for doneness using your preferred method. pakisa100 06-01-2005 08:31 AM Cake pan conversions - U.S. to metric http://www.italiansrus.com/food/baking_pan_conv.htm Baking Pan Conversions U.S. to Metric 8 x 1 1/2 -Inch Round Baking Pan = 20 x 4 -cm Cake Pan 9 x 1 1/2 -Inch Round Baking Pan = 23 x 3.5 -cm Cake Pan 11 x 7 x 1 1/2 -Inch Baking Pan = 28 x 18 x 4 -cm Cake Pan 13 x 9 x 2 -Inch Baking Pan = 30 x 20 x 3 -cm Cake Pan 15 x 10 x 1 -Inch Baking Pan = 30 x 25 x 2 -cm Cake Pan 9 -Inch Pie Plate = 23 x 4 -cm Pie Plate 8 -Inch Springform Pan = 20 -cm Springform Pan 9 x 5 x 3 -Inch Loaf Pan = 23 x 13 x 7 -cm Loaf Pan

Here's one just for starters from Crisco's site:
http://www.crisco.com/basics/metric_con.asp There was a time when many people thought the entire world would convert to the metric scale. While most of the world has, America still has not. Metric conversions in cooking are vitally important to preparing a tasty recipe. Here is a simple conversion table that should come in handy. Volume 1/4 teaspoon......................1.25 ml 1/2 teaspoon.......................2.5 ml 3/4 teaspoon.......................3.75 ml 1 teaspoon..........................5 ml 1 tablespoon......................15 ml 1/4 cup.............................62.5 ml 1/2 cup............................125 ml 3/4 cup............................187.5 ml 1 cup...............................250 ml Weight 1 ounce........................28.4 g 8 ounces.....................227.5 g 16 ounces (1 pound).....455 g
