Lara, the Dr. has me on gluten free for a month to see if it's causing IBS. I have NO pain, just gone from constipation to loose stools. Colonoscopy doesn't show any polyps, just a little bit of diverticulous. SP.?
He also said high fiber and Metamucil. After a month, if I see a change for the better, how will I know what is working?
High Fiber?
Metamucil?
gluten free?

Tricky doctors advice. He's maybe trying to see if the fibre helps your diverticulitis. I don't know.

That's the trouble with changing many or several things at once. I am not sure what I'd do if in your situation. Maybe the fibre and Metamucil would be enough to settle your problems down altogether without going gluten free?

It's like one or the other to me but I really think you should call the Doctor or ask the nurse at the office? Your Doctor has perhaps never gone gluten free so doesn't realize what's involved.

Maybe he thinks doing all 3 will settle you down faster and that's the primary goal I suppose.

When my daughter started going gluten free we were astounded at all the products that contain gluten. I threw out so much even in the bathroom products. It was very difficult at first. She started suspecting gluten sensitivity when she kept breaking out in a rash around her mouth and chin. She also had tummy troubles. Then when she stopped eating gluten products that all cleared up... plus she is particular with the bathroom products. She cheats a little from time to time but always breaks out in the same rash the next day.

Have you read The Gluten File, jewels?
It's in the Sticky threads at the top of the forum.

btw I think Metamucil powder is gluten free but there are Metamucil wafers that contain gluten.

Interesting on the rash. My grandgirl started her 1st yr of college and so she's exposed to a lot more germs and foods she wasn't eating at home etc...she was feeling bum last week and my daughter didn't want to go to doctor and spend tons of money, so she took her to our Homeopathic Pharmacy which has been in our town since 1948....they have consultants on staff. The naturopath looked at my grandgirl and saw some light rash on her young skin and went right to gluten issues. She also recommended an immune system supplement that contains beta glucan. So gluten does cause issues for more than we know.

Talking to my grandgirl today and she says she's gone pretty much gluten free. She's been challenged with acne for 4-5 yrs and took meds, laser therapy, peels you name it and still break outs. She says her skin is so cleared up and less stomach bloating since off gluten.
