Default Help reading celiac test results

Hi.

I keep seeing things about IgA deficiency but thought that would mean low IgA result. I can't seem to find anything if it seems that my IgA test is high at 3.55 if it's supposed to be .90 or less. Anyone know what this means?

My results were:

TISSUE TRANSGLUTAMINASE IgG 0.36 Index <=0.90 Index
Tissue transglutaminase IgA 3.55 Index <=0.90 Index

Thank you.

Default If that is the normal lab range given--

--than what you have there qualifies as a positive transglutaminase IgA test.

As the transglutaminase IgA is the least sensitive but the most specific serologic marker in a celiac panel--and is the test most closely correlated with villous damage due to antibody activity in the small intestine--this strongly suggest you have celiac.

You could confirm with an endoscopy with small intestinal sampling--although you'd want to make sure if that was done that a goodly number of samples were taken at various sites, as the damage from celiac, especially early, can be patchy and not easy to find. But a gluten free diet would certainly be in order; it couldn't hurt you and it might well help you. (I imagine you only had these tests done do to some sort of symptomology.)
