Long story short:
10 years+ of horrible stomach aches- shock, vommiting 6 hours +, ER visits, morphine, xrays, CT scans ... yet no answers. Saw the head of gastroenterology at U of M and got nowhere. I got "Don't know. Surgery will fix this- 20% chance. Or it might just be worse." No diet suggestions- nothing. Just "This only gets worse with time."- referral. So I start a gluten-free diet. Lower my red meat consumption, up my fish... eat a more vegetarian diet, down my coffee consumption, and so far, so good! I used to be heavy on the whole grains. I'm thinking that long-term my body just couldn't deal with the allergic reactions and the slightest bit would make a huge flare-up in my gut to the point where my body acted as if it was completely blocked. Looking foward to more ideas how to eat gluten-free. Have had home-made gluten-free breads. Yum. |

WELCOME NATHAN!!
Someday, you might want to know if you were reacting to gluten, so you might want to have some testing done before you are gluten free for too long. I sure wish I had done it. Check out The Gluten File Diagnositic Testing page. If you've had it with doctors, you can order your own test at Enterolab. This is what I did, but I was gluten free for so long, I didn't show any antibodies to gluten. I did find out my genetics though, which was cool. I hope to be posting more recipes soon, when I have time. Claire

I just read the links. I've been off gluten for three weeks now, so I doubt the test would work right. Seeing as I haven't had an attack since just before then AND I don't want to, I don't know that I'd go back to eating it just to take a test. At least right now.
