Default way off topic

When I was in kindergarten or first grade (can't quite remember which), if you came to school with new shoes you got to walk around the room while everyone sang a song about your new shoes.

My family finds this ridiculous and unbelieveable, and perhaps it is.

I'm just wondering... does anyone else remember such a ritual for new shoes????? Or was my class the only class in the world who did it ?

Sounds like one of those wonderful wacky creative ideas teachers get to spice things up.

LOL - I think your class was the only class in the world to do this.

Do you remember the words to the song?

I don't.

I want to sing,

"Who has new shoes? Cara has new shoes!"

But. I know that wasn't it. It was real song, like one of the dopey one's you'd sing in music class, that are real, but not really real....lol. Maybe it will come to me. I was sort of surprised the memory came to me at all. My husband wore new shoes to work today and when he got home I asked him if anybody sang the new shoe song to him...lol. He said no.

and I bet he was glad too. If someone had sang the new shoe song, he would have had to do the new shoe dance.

I went to Catholic school, and we all had the same shoes, LOL! No singing for us!

Old Shoes, New Shoes added 9-10-01 Original Author Unknown

Old shoes, new shoes,
(child's name) is wearing (child describes their shoe. ex. buckle, blue, tennis) shoes.
One, two, three, four.
Now, I stomp them on the floor.

This song is called the New shoe song: It is to the tune of this old man. The lyrics are as follows:

Here's one foot, here are two,
Each one wearing a brand new shoe,
So skip and dance all around the floor,
That's what these new shoes are for.

My preschoolers love this song, when I notice someone with new shoes we make a point to sing it.

OMGosh>>> I can't believe you found that. I honestly can't remember if either of those were it, but I do think the name fit into it. It could be that first one, because I think maybe we did describe the shoe. I don't remember stomping though. I sent an email to an old friend who went to the same schools as I did...so I'll let you know if she remembers it.

BTW...I went to a catholic school 1-8, and we had uniforms, but not the same shoes. Maybe that is why they sung about new shoes, lol, because that was they only thing we had different from one another.

Let's try this post again. I was just about to click submit when the power went out with a big bang. That's usually a sign that a squirrel got toasted in a transformer in our backyard.

Heheheheehee You guys have made a Google Master. 4.5 years of researching has got to get you somewhere, right?

I constantly amaze a gal over at the other place. However the info I find is usually about a person [they're usually causing trouble]. LOL!!

Cara - glad you had a good trip down memory lane...

Now...let's go see if I can find some supper in the backyard...I have a hankerin' for some blackened squirrel.

This sounds SO fun! I've changed my major again... hopefully going into elementary education so maybe I can use this some day.
