Hi all!
I look forward to perusing this forum!

Just got enterolab results back yesterday, results are:
Fecal Antigliadin IgA 15 (Normal Range <10 Units)
Fecal Antitissue Transglutaminase IgA 13 Units (Normal Range <10 Units)
Quantitative Microscopic Fecal Fat Score 914 Units (Normal Range <300 Units)
Fecal anti-casein (cow's milk) IgA antibody 13 Units (Normal Range <10 Units)
HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 1 0201
HLA-DQB1 Molecular analysis, Allele 2 0501
Serologic equivalent: HLA-DQ 2,1 (Subtype 2,5)

Though the units are fairly low on the scale, still a positive for sensitivity I guess?
I don't know, I'm so new to the whole thing that my head is just spinning.

I am 37 and have had asthma and allergies from toddlerhood,
alopecia universalis since I was 19 and lymphoma diagnosed in 2006. I had never really even thought of celiac or gluten sensitivity as I don't really show classic symptoms at all.
In dealing with the lymphoma though (now in remission) I've been wondering and wondering how the alopecia and the lymphoma fit together? Both relatively rare, afterall and surely they must be related somehow?

After many recommendations I went to see a new MD who suggested right off the bat that I get tested for celiac through enterolab. And it seems that his hunch was right.

Now I'm just wondering, do I go for the conventional blood test and biopsy too? Or should I just assume that it's celiac due to the genetic predisposition and the relatively high level of malabsorption?

As I said, my head isjust spinning right now. I have already eliminated meat and dairy from my diet this past summer so adding gluten doesn't seem like a big deal, especially since it might help prevent reocurrence of the lymphoma.

I do find myself wondering if it's true celiac because the units though positive, are fairly low.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to this journey towards better health!

Hi Laura! I've been away from this board for a long time and am surprised by the lack of activity. I guess everyone is wrapped up in holiday stuff. I should be more than I am.

Here is a bit of my story- I had the blood work done once or twice and it always came back negative. My Rheumatologist didn't want to put me through the biopsy but said I should try the diet. His daughter and brother in law are celiacs so he knows what it is all about. I didn't want to go on the restrictive diet without proof that I should. Eventually I discovered Enterolab and Rheumy reluctantly left me try it. The results came back as a weak positve and I started the diet shortly afterwards. It took a good two months for me to know there was no turning back. A little over nine months after starting I still can't believe the wonderful differance in my life and health.

My two cents? And that is all it is really worth. Skip the other testing and try the diet. Some people feel better within the first week, while others like me, need to give it a month or two. I second guessed my results in the beginning but not anymore.

Hope this helps!

TRY diet ... I was negative at biopsy for celiac 14yrs ago but for six eliminated all gluten and did fine...

I do have IGG/IGA and a subclass deficiency which is a nasty not common immune disorder

Default On the diet too without testing

We started the diet to help alleviate our son's tic disorder as a last stitch effort to finally see if we could get a handle on it. (He was 3 1/2 when it all began). Because of his age we decided to make our whole house gluten free. In the beginning dh and I would still pick up burgers for ourselves and eat whatever we wanted 'after bedtime' and when we went out, but after seeing such remarkable results with ds (now almost 5) we started to really wean ourselves off of the gluten. After 9 months now we are happy to be gluten free and very reluctant to indulge even when we are out with friends (who can be very convincing, probably because they haven't really got a clue about it.) Dh and I laugh that we must sound like little gluten-free evangelists. LOL.
I think the hardest part is being at a wedding or party with provided food. Dh will still indulge but I try not to. He tested negative to celiac, but I was unable to take the test as I had already been practicing the GF diet at the time. We plan to use enterolabs for genetic testing.

Thanks so much for the responses!
I've just jumped in and eliminated all gluten almost a month ago.
I can't say that so far I'm really noticing much of a difference in the way I feel so I'm relieved to see that sometimes it takes awhile to see a difference!

Now I'm contemplating getting the genetic testing done on my children to see if they carry the 'gluten gene' too.

Thanks again!
