Hi Rach,

Have you ever had gout before? It's not fun! I've had problems with it for 20+ years [rarely since being GF]. I can see how kidney issues would cause gout [build up of uric acid in your blood stream that settles in your joints - usually in your feet].

Do they have you on Allopurinol or Colchosine? I don't know how those drugs would affect the kidneys.

Gosh - I hope your attack goes away quickly!

Kim - Sorry to hear about all the tooting. Yup - you family could be useful on the train at every train crossing heheee. Holy cow - has is been almost a year for your new guy? WOW...

Thanks gang for all the well wishes

Cara - congrats on your 25th [wow], and the upcoming nuptials!

Good luck to everyone's Home Improvement projects - wanted or unwanted

So far so good We survived Halloween. Oldest was actually happy about trading in most of her candy. She's not gluten free (yet) but with no dairy/no dye...the pickings were slim. I didn't let her do 1:1 trades, I paid $3 for fake M&Ms that didn't have dairy or dye...I figured that was worth at least 3 bags of the real ones

Youngest didn't enjoy the holiday much, she has a nasty rash in her nether region, the dr says its "wait and see" but is taking a sample based on family history of UTI. I was hoping for a magic ointment or something.

My mom is going to ask about getting tested, yay! I strongly suspect her mom, and grandmother had GI if not celiac.

So now we get to plan Thanksgiving. I want to start baking again too, if I could find some flour I feel good about (not Bob's) I'm getting nervous since it was this time last year my body exploded...but I'd just gone gluten free, tried to get enough in me to trigger a test (which was neg) and then ignored CC issues...so I'm hyper-vigilant now.

I just realized that means somewhere around here was my first gf anniversary. Wow.

Hi MistsofVio....

It's good to "see" you again

I can't recall your allergen list, but if it's okay for you guys, I highly recommend the gifts of nature all purpose flour. It's been just terrific for us with everything we have tried! It's my favorite by a long shot!

"Hi" to everybody - good to see you all.

I have 3 more days of work and 6 more days to wait til I get on a plane and fly to NYC for the International Celiac Convention. Wish all of you were going to be there with Linda and me.

Thanks Sleeping Bean I'll look it up. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to corn and potato...so I probably need to make my own mixture. The big problem is confirming that cross contamination from corn isn't a high risk. Bob's red mill is the easiest to find brand around here, and I just don't trust them anymore I'll see if I can find Back to Nature...and what their cleaning procedures are

No news to report here. In my family we are all the same as last month.

Congrats to Cara's engaged son, and to the people who are having anniversaries. Rachel, I hope you feel better soon. I had no idea that gout was so horrid.

Has anybody heard from Karen (WorriedMom on old BrainTalk)? She doesn't seem to be here on NeuroTalk, and I miss her.

I came back to say that I'm very sorry to hear about your gout issues Rachel. I've heard refined sugar is a big no-no but I'm sure you probably aren't eating that anyway. Wish I had something more constructive to offer on that front.

Congratulations to Cara! How wonderful and exciting!! P and I ran away to get married (we ran 3 hours away )... Anyway, our witnesses were the couple that owned the "Inn" we stayed at ("The Benjamin Inn", on Christmas Eve) and they were celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary.

We did consider ourselves lucky and have had a wonderful marriage. It will be 10 years for us this Christmas Eve.

Also, I have had to go back and edit my last post because I have subsequently found out that I did not gluten the family. The cheese package does say 'gluten free' right on it. I had to go and look again because I've not had any behaviour problems with the children (esp. ds who goes quite obviously freakazoid)... and that's our number one indicator of a glutening. I was quite puzzled about this... and actually quite worried because I think it would be hard to keep them gf if they didn't have any negative symptoms that came with it.

So, I'm thinking it's the soy that caused all that gas. We don't generally eat beans in our house.

Kim! I had to respond to this. My dh and I "eloped" all of 45 minutes away to get married in a B&B with the innkeepers as witnesses ... on the 23rd of December! We will be celebrating 17 years next month.

I'm glad to hear your family didn't get glutened. We eat a variety of beans in our house, and some are definitely more "musical" than others.
