i'm newly diagnosed with cd as of a month ago and been following a gluten free diet with no relief yet, how long does it take for you to get better? i've had terrible pain in my upper right side/rib area since may and finally got diagnosed. do these symptoms sound familiar to anyone and does anyone know how long it takes to get better on a gluten free diet?

That's how I was diagnosed, I first went to the gastroenterologist for stabbing upper right quad/rib pain. I thought it was my gallbladder. Celiac does run in my family so I should have known. I felt better after 3 or 4 months on GF diet and I haven't had those pains in three years now.

It can take anywhere from two months to two years for the small intestine to heal itself but the GF diet has to be strictly adhered to. So, if you're still sick in another month or two, be careful you aren't inadvertently being glutened.

Teflon pans, wooden utensils and toaster ovens may contain gluten even after being washed. Cross contamination in open jars of peanut butter, jelly or butter - they may contain gluten from the non-celiacs folks in the household. Eating out, even in restaurants with gluten free menus, is always risky because of CC in their kitchens.
