Default Help no dairy

Hi all, this is so wonderful that we have a new site to come to.
I need a little help, I've been glutten free since the 1st of June. Things have greatly improved, more energy no headache stomach stuff and of course the big D all gone. But, now it seems I have this stomach ache in my stomach area that wil not let up. Its a sometimes bad sometimes not so, my dr gave me something for acid reflux which I took for the whole 30 days, but no help. So now I think its dairy so I quit that a week ago, still got the stomach ache.
Question, shouldn't the stomach ache have gone away by now? Or am I just rushing it.
I had to see another dr and he set me up for a GI specialist but this could take months. It was bad enough going glutten free but now dairy What do you use for a sub? I tried soy and I had a real bad reaction to that, felt like I was gluttened, apparently this is common.
Today I just felt like giving up, so tired of reading labels and finding out that I can't have it. All I wanted today was a chocalate bar. No glutten no dairy no soy just chocalate, any suggestions. Thanks, Patricia

We use Almond Breeze, although it does have some soy, it isn't primarily soy. I also just posted about the best new rice cream...although it may have some soy, too.

It took my stomach quite a while to heal...I'd definitely say at least months. I took fish oil which is supposed to help heal the gut. I've also heard some people swear by aloe vera juice to help restore a healthy gut.

Hmmm...I just added back a food allergy page in TGF, and I think one of the links on leaky gut mentioned some things that may help. Carol (concerned lady) also had some reflux tips that might be useful. I'll try to be back with some links for things soon.

I think that it can take a bit longer for the stomach aches to resolve, but you might want to watch the casein, soy, corn for a while.

Sorry that you are still having stomach problems. One other thought is that it is another food. Sounds like you react to soy . Other foods that commonly cause problems are yeast, corn, nightshades, legumes, eggs. Of course any food can be a problem, but these seem to be amoung the common ones.

I react severely to gluten and yeast. I test positive to casein and eggs but don't seem to have a noticible reaction to these. It is rare that I will eat dairy or eggs.

As Cara said, it may be that your stomach needs more time to heal. B12 can also have a healing effect on the stomach. Are you on B12?

I cannot find a GFCF chocolate that doesn't have soy lecithin but I have heard that there is no soy protein in soy lecithin. If that is true, one candy bar that would be ok is Tropical Source Rice Crisp. A search for GFCF chocolate will bring up some sources on the web.

Pacific Foods almond milk contains no soy (nor gluten nor dairy).

Enjoy Life chocolate chips are advertised as "allergen free" and have no dairy, no soy, no gluten, no corn...

HTH,
Jamie

Default Thanks

Hi again, thanks for the relpys
I bought some rice milk today that is free of all the BAD stuff, tasted pretty good, its Natur-a. Now I can have ricecrisp cereal, feels like I'm starting all over again, hungry all the time, the fruit and veggies just aren't cutting it. I don't have much money so I have to make things from scratch, which is ok, but I sure could eat a box of cookies right now
I looked at the leaky gut page, can a regular GP ask for this test? Is there a test for milk intolerance, other than lactose? As you can see I really don't want to let this go unless I have too!!!! Even though I know its not a great thing to have. I've only been tested for celiac by blood test, they were negitive. I've never been tested by Enterolabs. Wish I could though things with drs mights look a little better. They think it just IBS. When really its alot more than that. Best to just fix it yourself and save yourself a headache.
Yes to taking B12, I think it was Cara that shinned some light on that one. I most definitly feel better taking that. Although I don't know what my numbers are right now, keep forgetting to ask for another test.
Thanks Jamie for the chocalate tip, see if I can find them and make some cookies Thank you all Patricia

Where is Karen (MADD)...she always took these questions about testing for intestinal permeability!

The casein intolerance testing is another good question.

Enterolab tests for both these things. Other IgG food allergy testing looks at casein, too, right?

There are other tests for intestinal permeability, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment. If nobody else has an answer to this on the tip of their tongue... I'll try to find an answer for you. This was not a very good one!

Cara

Bec, over on the old Child Neurology forum, was told by her allergist that it takes 6 weeks to get all the dairy out of your system. She had a lot of post-nasal drip. Five weeks into going dairy-free, it cleared up. It did not go away gradually, more of an overnight thing.

In Tom's case, two weeks into our dairy-free experiment, he had dairy withdrawal symptoms - seizures. (He has epilepsy, and it turns out that dairy was his biggest trigger.)

All this to say, it could still be the dairy. Give it 6 weeks, and then see if you react to it.
