Your family should get the family discount for gall bladder surgery. I hope this is the answer to Con's pains. I am sure the 15th can some soon enough.

Hey, y'all.
Con had his gallbladder surgery Monday and so far, so good. He allready feels better. Just the pain from the surgery. He says the other pain is finally gone. Whoohoo! The surgeon says it was definately his gallbladder. It was distended and the bile ducts were smaller than normal. Glad we decided to do this now instead of waiting until he was older and would have had more complications. Thanks again for all of the suport. It's so scary when your little ones are hurting and no one can figure out why. Now, any one have any ideas on meals that are a.) soft diet, b.) milk free c.) gluten free d.) fat free and e.) palitable to a 13 year old boy? LOL It's a rough one to figure out. |

Hi!
I'm happy to hear the surgery went well, and I really really hope that once Con heals from the surgery...that he will finally be pain free and feel well! I'm glad they finally figured it out~ sorry it took so long to figure it out. To better days ahead~ and it sounds like he is well on his way . Cara

Wishing him quick healing!
I'd start with a hearty stew or soup. You can puree it if that is easier for him. And if you make it ahead of time and cool it in the fridge, the fat will congeal on the top and you can easily scoop it off before you heat it up and serve it to him. I'm so glad he's feeling better! Rachel |

I'm thrilled to hear that the yucky old pain is gone.
We're all high fat here so can't help much in that regard. I did read the other day though, how shrimp is high in selenium and protein but one of the lowest meats when it comes to fat. You might want to read that article first, just in case my memory is not serving me well.

That pain sounded awful.
I don't see how anyone can live fat free. That is just not healthy. What you do need to consider is smaller more frequent meals. Keeping bad fats out of the picture (like french fries and saturated), while keeping the good (omega-3s). A small duct will still be a potential problem. And keeping bile flowing well is important. I gave you that website..post #25 above. Many people continue with problems AFTER the gall bladder is removed. So some care and attention to food is necessary, after the initial healing phase. But it looks like the worst is over! Congrats to both of you!

Hey Mrsd. I have run through some of the food on the list, and he is still having pain, so we just play it by ear. He just isn't ready for solids yet. He says it is not even the same pain as before the surgery, but he doesn't want to push it. He's kinda tired of hurting. Can't says I blame him much there.
And I have been watching the fats, just as you suggested. No saturated and low general. (Shrimp was ok, BTW. Go figure. LOL) He loves fish, so I will see if the local market has anything less than a week old. (ick. It sucks living land locked when it comes to seafood shopping. Gack.) |
