Default Just adding my thoughts, Cara--

--for your mom.

And for Mrs. D's son and his finger (wasn't too much tip lost, I hope).

Thanks everyone. She came home from the hospital late yesterday, although there is follow up to be done~ the immediate crisis appears to be over. They still need to look for other sources of slower internal bleeding, and investigate the abnormal lab results.

I appreciate your caring thoughts.

Cara

Red face whew...

That is a relief, Cara. I hope they find a simple explanation for the bleeding.
This is quite common, you know.

My son's finger is better today. (first day with no bleeding).
No swelling or signs of infection. (he is taking care of it like I showed him).
He says it is healing up...but with a way to go still.

A gal at work yesterday said they can stitch a wound up like this. She had it
done...by pulling the skin over the open area. Sounds worse than the
initial wound, however. In her case she could see the finger bone, and with
my son, it wasn't that DEEP, but only across a large area. His was about 1-2 millimeters deep.

This reminds me of a customer once who came up to my counseling window, and asked about bandages. When I asked, him what for?, he whipped out this finger that had 1/2 inch of bone poking out of it...mangled..rather shocking and gross.
I directed him to the urgent care 3 blocks down, and told him to possibly expect a referral to the ER even! It was quite a sight!

Sorry Al.... my hubby is stubborn like my son, too. I am outnumbered here by them!

Sorry to hear about your mom Cara ((hugs)). My MIL was in the hospital at her 90th birthday with intestinal bleeding. My SIL thought she was just being dramatic, but it was something real. Luckily, she was in Florida at the time and they are used to treating the elderly. Her stupid doctors here in Colorado told her to take baby aspirin on top of the coumodin she was taking. It caused her intestines to bleed. As soon as she stopped the aspirin, she was better.

Our power went out for about 2 hours on Christmas day, which was slightly disconcerting as we were cooking dinner. We still managed to overcook the turkey . We have another big snowstorm rolling into Colorado today. If it dumps again like it did last week, it will be a record!

Claire~

My sister was telling me last night that you were expecting another huge snowfall in the area!! We had our one 17 inch dump where I live in early December, and that all melted, and we've been in the 40's and 50's since with green grass..which is a little strange for a WI winter...lol. I am not complaining. I didn't even miss a white Christmas since we had the huge storm just a week or two before.

My others sister who lives where I do sent my sister who lives where you do frozen custard from her favorite custard stand here for xmas. It was to arrive on Thursday before Christmas, but because of the storm.. it did not arrive until SUNDAY CHRISTMAS EVE. We were worried it would be melted, but the dry ice and packaging, and probably cold temps... kept it frozen. All ten pints!

Hope you don't lose power again if you did get dumped on!

Cara

Goodness! What a lot going on with everyone!! Keeping everyone in my prayers.

I'm happy to report that I am feeling better. I am getting some Reiki treatments and they have helped a lot. Woohoo--I've been about 3 days without pain meds!

Hugs to all!

My word, the things that happen in our little family when I'm not paying attention! Cara, I'm so glad your Mom is home and feeling better. What a frightening thing to happen. We've been through cancer also, I had it in '99, and my hubby in '00 (died in '01).
Al, I've been dealing with some of those faulty appliances also. But sometimes they keep on keeping on. Case in point, my dishwasher, which we bought in '83 when we first moved to TN. It is so rusted the hook for the door latch fell off, and I have to hold the door closed with a stick. But hey, if it still washes, that's better than me having to do it by hand! Even if I do have to stick my finger in the slot on the inside of the door and pretend to be a hook so that the safety latch figures it's hooked. No, I don't leave my finger in there, I take it out once the machine comes on, and prop up my trusty stick!
Hope everyone is recovering from all of the various calamities!
Hugs,
