Hello Forum, I am a 26year old female from the MW. No previous health issues to speak of. Anyway, on the 18th of December last year I recieved a head injury at work (3 2x4 boards dropped onto my head). After visiting multiple doctors and clinics as advised by my workers comp contact, and recieving CT scans they found that I had a concussion and contusion near my right temple.
Today, 2months plus later, I am still having issues that I believe stem from this. I've been having terrible headaches, dizzyness, nausea, and other symptoms for the entire duration. They had put me on Tramadol & Meclazine initally. The tramadol wasn't effective (although the meclazine helped the dizzyness to a degree) so they changed the perscription to Cyclopenzaprine; which is also no help for my head and caused stomach pains, so I was advised to quit taking it. After my last doctors apppintment they released me 'in good health' but I'm still having daily, almost attacks, of head pain. I plan on going to a non-workmans comp doctor soon, but thought to ask if anyone had any insight as to what I should do to solve these headaches! Thank you. |

I'm not sure why they prescribed cyclobenzaprine (aka Flexeril) - a muscle relaxant - for headaches There are a couple of possibilities. If you are still taking anything, there is a phenomenon called "rebound headache" that sometimes happens, but that should clear up within a short time after discontinuing the causal medication. Another possibility (that you should pursue with doctors) is the possibility of Post-concussion syndrome (PCS). There is a specific forum for that condition here on NeuroTalk. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/forum92.html Doc

Hi Letta. I am sorry you are having to deal with these issues. I had a similar work injury with almost the same diagnosis and I am still unable to work or drive and my injury was in October of last year.
Have you let the doctor who released you know you are still having difficulties? Working and still being dizzy, feeling ill is not a good combination! Concussion related injuries can take a long time to heal. Getting the pain under control from trauma induced headaches has been one of my biggest problems. Don't settle for feeling how you are now, get another opinion.

Hi,
I too have had daily headache and other symptoms with PCS - my neurologist put me on a couple of pain packs over the early months and they did help overall in the intensity. I also take a mile anti-depressent for sleep related issues. I have been taking aricept for a bout 45 days for cognitive issues and last night was the first time I can remember actualy having a dream. It was very vivid but I only remember about 1 min and a woke shortly after. The whole PCS thing seems to take months so stay diligent with treatment. I am by no means back to normal but the dream made it feel like my brain me starting to recircuit itsself. Has anyone else had effects from this med and treating with short term mem and cog issued after TBI?
