Default headache for 21 days !

The first 7-10 days of my headache were the most excruciating. But thankfully i've overcome the worst part for good I hope. This headache began after a stressful day at work, and since has never left (completely). I have been to the docs and got a CT-scan, which ruled out anything serious. I was prescribed Ibruprofen, Animigran, and ORKELAX I think it's called. The meds helped for the worst part, but now I've have taken then all. My headache is still there, on the right side of my temple. Although, it's not excruciating like it used to be it's always lingering. Like a mild, throbbing, pulsating feeling thats constant. I get these mild headaches every morning when I wake up, some days worse than others, but always there. Going about my day I sometimes manage to ignore them but by the evening... The mild sensation feeling always comes back again.. Could it be something more serious or am I just being paranoid? Any opinions/suggestions would be much appreciated. I just want this HEADACHE to go away completely so I can go on with my lifeeeeeeee..

Thanks in advance. Mike

Hi Mike, Welcome.

You left out the amitriptyline.

I was able to figure out Imigran (Imitrex/sumatriptan here), and I'm not sure what ORKELAX is, but you need to go back to your doctor, update him/her, ask to try a different abortive (than Imigran), and for a referral to a migraine specialist (not just a neurologist). Getting a proper diagnosis on what type of migraine you have is important in treatment.

In the meantime, start a headache log/journal (google: headache log journal). Read up on them, view a few samples, and either use one of those or modify/customize your own. This will speed things along when you see the migraine specialist. You might try sleeping on a wedge/incline for a few nights to see if that helps any (keeping your head above the rest of your body, but don't kink your neck).

Do you consume a lot of caffeine? Aspertame? MSG? These are just 3 common items in peoples' diets that can trigger/exacerbate migraines.
Google: foods that cause migraine.

Migraines are seldom one-time occurences, so it might help to read up on them just in case...

HTH,

Doc

I forgot to mention that I now live in Thailand.. So, the communication barier between me and the doctor can be quite difficult at times. They're many good docs here but I haven't foundd one I can completely trust yet!

I know that this headache started after a stressful Thursday at school! so, I assume it must be stress related. But my headache is worse when I lay down, than when I stand up. All symptoms that I have read lead to 'Cluster Headache' but that can't be possible because mine aren't excruciating enough. When i'm active throughout my day I manage to ignore my headache (sometimes). When I arrive home from a long day is when my headache comes back to haunt me!

A majority of the food I eat do contain substantial amounts of MSG' in some dishes. Also, I eat 2min packaged noodles every so often because i'm always on the GO! I never knew this could be a possible factor for causing headaches. Thanks for this info, really!

The only think I know about 'ORKELAX' is that it's some kind of paracetamol.. Other than that I don't have any clue....

I'll give you an update within the next few days about what changes i've made, and wether OR not it has helped with my headache..

Appreciate all the help.. Cheers!
