Default Topamax dosage

For those of you who are also taking Topamax/Topiramate I am wondering how much of it you are taking and how you are taking it. Is it in 2 doses, AM and PM, or just one dose at night? I have two different doctors I work with since we have split residences between two 2 different countries [part of the year in Panama and part of the year in the USA] and am getting mixed messages. So, currently I have worked up from 25mg to 100mg and now switched from just PM dosing to taking it 50mg in the AM and 50mg in the PM. From what I see on the internet and on the drug pages that seems to be more the norm. Is that right?

Hey there! I no longer take Topamax because its effectivness wore off. I did take it for many years though and it helped me so much. It cut down the frequency of migraines tremendously. I was up to 200mg daily and because I had problems sleeping, my dr told me to take my entire dose at night so it would help me sleep and I did it that way for a couple of years.

I think the "normal" dosaging is to take part in the am and the other in the pm.

The doctors actually have me taking the topiramate for visual auras which have increased in frequency, plus are now coming in clusters of 3 or 4 instead of singularly, with mild headaches that hang on and on. It used to occur 6-18 months apart, but now occur only a few weeks apart. For years I didn't get headaches at all or very rarely that would last only a day or so. Flashing/blinking lights have always been a real problem for me, so holidays like Christmas and the 4th of July are troublesome --although I love them! Sometimes, I even have to wear dark glasses at night due to the lights. The doctors seem to think all this is migraine related, although regular migraine meds didn't seem to do anything for it. So, who know????

I have heard of those visual auras being a migraine without the headache...occular migraines. I haven't had them, so I am not so familiar with them. Sorry you are having them more frequently, is the Topamax/Topiramate helping? I always have headache. In fact, I have had a headache every single day for as long as I can remember. I call it a baseline headache, it is always there and at times it gets much worse or I get a migraine. I cannot remember a day that I didn't have one. I have been getting migraines since I was a kid and I am 47 now. Topamax changed my life

I am with you on the flashing/blinking lights. They will trigger a migraine instantly....strobe lights are the worst!

I just went up to the 100mg of Topiramate with the split 50/50 dosage so am hoping it helps. At 75mg only in PM I had 3 more visual auras in a cluster after only 25 days in- between. So right now I am in a lull. I am hoping this works better to spit the dosage and keep it more even in my blood stream. When they did the EEG 10 yrs ago with the Flashing Lights trying to trigger a seizure, it was so terribly painful [the strobe lights that is]. I had a "bad-for-me" headache for 2 + weeks afterwards - anyone else probably would have thought it was "moderate". Recently, I had another EEG done without the Strobe lights, and it didn't show the brain waves with spikes like that first one. I'm sure it was the strobe lights that did it! This EEG was normal.
