Confused need help

Hello I am so glad that I am not the only person who has 3-5 day migranes!!
My doctors make me feel like I am making them up I have tried soooo many different meds...Imatrex midrin darvocet fiorocet tylenol with codine and many more. After seven years I found some relief and Currently i am taking topamax and vicodin but my doctor only prescribes small amounts of the vicodin and lately I have had to take more than usual to just ease the pain... The docs don't understand that my the pain lasts for days at a time. I feel I am developing a tolerency to it but am afraid to tell my doc.. because it is the only thing that has ever worked. It is beoming intolerable and so I have been going to the ER for "the shot"(that is a whole different story) But sometimes I can't even get out of bed to do that. I have two small children and I just want to be a good mom!!!What are these break through meds that i have seen ya'll talk about? Any Suggestions on how to talk to my doctor??

Post Hello

Hello Pea Dunkle,
I am so sorry your going through such a bad time with your migraines. I too get really bad migraines that last for days. When I am having one that is really bad and it won't go away my doctor orders me Decadron for 2 days its a steroid and it helps so much. It almost always takes it away for me. I hope this suggestion helps you. I will keep you in my prayers. Take Care

Laraine

OMG you sound just like me. (except that I don't have small children, or any children at home.) However, my migraines last for days.

Quit taking the topomax as it didn't do any good. The only thing I take for pain now is butalbital (generic) I also take tizanidine (generic for Zanaflex), and am on warfarin for another problem. I was told by someone that I shouldn't get migraines while on warfarin. Surprise....!!!!

When I have a migraine and nothing seems to be working, freezer pops give a few minutes of relief. Of course, you can't snack on them the whole time you're down.

I feel for you hon, I really do. I know you have concerns about being a good mom, but from someone who's been there, your children will understand when they get older. Unfortunately, the best advice I can give is to get to bed at the first sign of a migraine, and stay there till it's bearable again.

Best of luck

Hugs and Prayers
