Help

Hi Missy!

I am so sorry you are having such bad migraines and insomnia. I know that whenever I missed sleep, my migraines would get worse.
I had profound migraines and fatigue for years, along with subtle neuro symptoms and a flipped sleep/wake cycle (hypersomnolence during the day and insomnia at night). For years my doctors kept calling it CFS, but then in April, I got diagnosed with something called Hashimoto's Encephalopathy, a rare complication of autoimmune thyroiditis. The two most common symptoms of HE are fatigue and migraines. I'm not sure if the flipped sleep/wake cycle is part of it or not.

I don't know if it's something you'd be interested in getting checked for, but in the event you would, it's thyroid antibodies that are tested. Mine were highly elevated, and then I also found out my gland was full of tiny nodules.
My thyroid hormone levels were perfectly normal for years and so my doctors told me my gland was fine. This is common in HE, as the encephalopathy precedes the overt thyroid failure by years, and most doctors will not check antibodies unless the hormones are abnormal first.

Anyways, I don't know if any of this applies to you, but I wanted to share my story because I went undiagnosed for so long and had no clue my thyroid was conking out! It took 8 years to figure out.
