Hi. Hopefully you are going to see a Neuro you like a lot. What I have found in my experience with Neuros (I have 10 under my belt) is the good ones will ask you to keep a diary. Granted, this will take some time but it helps a LOT to diagnose your headache and migraine type as not all are treated equal.

Your diary should have the following on it:

Actually, I'm going to scan mine and then reply to this post with the images!

I have kept a diary and nothing triggers it. I have had MRI's, Ct's, spinal tap, tons of blood work and still nothing. I do like her i have seen two so far and i like her. I wish they would dignose this or tell ME why.
I feel young or I think I am. I am 28 and with 3 kids. I need to have my life back. With one year gone by now. I feel like I just need to learn to deal with this. Which is fine. i need to find some sort of medicine to help me control or other procedures. I have been to a chiropractor also. He said he hasnt seen a case of mine IN YEARS! GREAT!!!! I tried accupunture with him and still nothing. Some days i dont even want to get out of bed. I have them ALL day. If i dont wake up with them i will have within an hour of being up.

Are you female or male?

If female have you noticed any connection to your periods. I have migraines and they are certainly the week of my period when estrogen falls and also when I ovulate whch can last a couple days. I take Fiorcet.

If they are hormonal you can help them with birth contrl pills and adding a small amount of estrogen. BUt need to see a doc and et sex hormones tested to see if you are estrogen deficient. Estrogen deficiency can be a big source of headaches.

Ok, lets see if I can attach these right! I am pretty sure I have two images attached. One is instructions, one is the diary. They didn't scan in high quality but you can still see what they say.

I have a full patient handout on headaches from Medlink. I don't think it would be legal for me to scan and share it, but doctors have full access. Ask your Neurologist to give you the "Headache Patient Handout" from Medlink. Almost every Neurologist should have it as that's where the Guidelines and such are pulled from. It has 11 pages that describe in full detail every type of headache, treatment and symptoms/causes.

Hope that helps some.

I am a female.
Where do I start.
I am on lyrica at night 200mg, I take Vicodin 3-4 times a day. I have fiorcets also. I take relpax or imitrex i switch back and forth from.
I also take lunesta at night. Since i started the Lunesta and Lyrica at night it isnt has bad in the morning, but after getting up they get worse. Lyrica side effects not sure I am likeing them!!!
My periods use to be bad HARSH like I was in labor then these headaches started and they arent that bad any more. They dont even last that long either.
I did ask her about my hormones she says NO, NO! I will push her tomorrow.
I want to go in with some sort of plan to show her what I want to try and WHAT hasnt been done yet.
I am glad I stumbled across this website! THere are other people like me~

Oh, also. I have a combination of Basilar Artery Migraines and my other headaches and migraines are from occipital and parietal lobe seizures (which is very hard to diagnose from what I was told).

I was also told about headache medicine that should be used for infrequent sufferers causing more headaches/migraines in the more frequent sufferers. Butalbital and Fioricet being the top two 'naughty' meds.

I'm currently trying Topamax, Maxalt, Some sleeping medicine that I forgot the name of, and Relpax (not all at once, obviously). I also have Trimethobenz for nausea (it also acts like a sedative for me at least).

Thanks Ellie for the info on Fiocet. It seems to be the one that works best fr me. I tried Maxalt and it made me so nauseous. Imitrex is hit or miss. Topmax was ok - loved the weight loss but hated the mood swings.

Mine are definitely hormonal. My periods were also very bad and lo and behold I have endometrios. Feel much better on birth control pills even though I am estrogen dificient. As I have put the pieces together it is looking like the endo is causing a lot of problems.

bhaag might be also worth scheduling some time with your gyn and test your sex hormone levels or even an endocrinolgist.
