Have you tried muscle relaxants? I really think that this is the key as there is so much inflammation that muscle tension builds, and pain relievers don't stop that happening. You can get over-the-counter muscle relaxants. Take a strong dose, along with a pain killer, and lie down so that your muscles can start to relax. When i get this one it lasts all day because I am still doing things (very little, then back to bed). if at night, I bomb myself out so that I sleep and let the body relax. so I think it is a lot of muscle tension that is causing the pain that won't go. |

I get one or two a month, with no identifiable trigger. How well are you sleeping? When was the last time you had a good, refreshing sleep? Can't remember? There is a vicious cycle with pain, and one of the most unrecognised is muscle tension. I tend to get very tense in the neck and shoulders, and so the slightest extra stress puts me over the top. I'm just starting to realise (pain affects the thinking ability) how much my neck and head pains are made worse by this factor. I'm now taking bigger doses of muscle relaxant at night, as sleep is so important in getting back on top of things. I was always trying to take nothing or just minimal amounts, but that didn't work. See if you can get an upper body massage when it has eased off a bit. You can also do shoulder and neck massages yourself, to just defuse the trigger points. I'm going to try to remember to do these little massages everyday to stop the muscle tension getting too high. Daily activities along with constant pain as going to give you huge stress, and you will store this as muscle tension. Hope this helps. |
Well I went to the doctor today and I am off work for the rest of the week. THey did another infusion to break my headache they used depacon, toredol and fluids I feel a little better. She also put me on depakot and some muscle relaxers. Well lets hope this works for me.

Before I finally got on the right dose of Topamax for my migraines, I too felt like a walking pharmacy. I had migraines so bad, I ended up in the ER at least twice a month on IVs to get rid of them. They knew me on a first name basis! Now, that's bad!
You should really talk to your doc about a preventative for your headaches and not something to take after the fact. Or see if you can find out what causes them....I don't know your history, but I went through every kind of testing there was to try and find out what causes mine. And I tried everything...having 2 or more migraines a week was just no long acceptable. Good luck with your new meds! |
I have tried the preventatives. Topomax, nuerontin, lyrica and now I am trying depokot. I hear ya about the not acceptable part! I have them every day!!!!!!
