Default Book for help on headaches

There is a book came highly recommended to me by my neurologist as well as friend who suffers from severe migraines. It's called Heal Your Headache by David Buchholz. Very good reading.

If anyone has read it, please post your comments. Positive and negative.

Thanks!

This is probably the book I rushed out and borrowed from the library a few years ago, hoping it would be the path to no headaches.
It wasn't. I'd say it's worth reading if your headaches are of unknown origin, and it may help you to find the cause, and in some cases a cure.
But when you have a neurological or physical problem as the root cause, you need proper medical intervention.
Go the chemical helpers!

Ya know, I really like this book.
However, I do think the author has a little "attitude" about him. His attitude: If you follow his program (having to do with dietary triggers) than you will no longer have headache pain.
However, it has been my experience (both with myself and observing other people) that often times it takes a variety of significant and major efforts to curb a chronic headache problem. Many chronic sufferers do need medical intervention (like the preventative medication (s)).
That being said, I wouldn't want to discourage anyone from purchasing this book or getting it from the library. I DO actually feel that this Dr. makes excellent points. He talks about how certain foods can lead to headache pain and how sometimes it takes a combination of triggers (trigger foods in combination with other events) to creat a headache. IMHO, it is a worthwhile read and can be helpful information.

Thumbs up

I did go out and buy the book and in the beginning I said WOW this is ME!! I am only on the Step 2 chapter. Very intersting. "Stop taking all your drugs COLD TURKEY"~ YEAH RIGHT! Now on the food triggers OK I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO EAT. I brought to my Neuro and she agrees with some and disagrees.
I do find it very interesting I AM GLAD i bought the book~ THANKS AV8GIRL.
About the triptans that I was just dumb founded. That he states only two PER MONTH. OMG I was taking the max dose daily. That my Neuro didnt agree with. SHe said everyone IS DIFFERENT. Well to be honest I have only taken 2 in the past week and I have been OKAY. I am also on some new preventives
I am on Lyrica AGAIN since that is the only thing that has been helping me. She has me on cymbalta TOO~ I google the two and it made me nervous but I am taking both.

I did not say this book was for everyone! It has some good points and some bad points!

It was recommended to me as a reference tool and came in handy when I was suffering pretty bad with migraines and no one could come up with an answer!

If you've read my history about migraines, I have been through the ringer. There are some foods that trigger mine and I know that, but there must also be something else because I do not eat these foods anymore. I am very careful about my diet. I was still getting killer migraines and the only way that they would be stopped was a trip to the ER and medication.

Thank goodness for my current neurologist and her forward thinking and putting me on topamax. This has been the only drug that has ever worked long term for me. Everything else stopped working after about 6-8 months.

Like you bhaag, I was dosing out on the triptans daily! I was taking 10mg of Maxalt daily...you can take 2 pills...and the migraines were not going away. I was on Verapamil...nothing...Cafergot...nothing. Imitrex didn't even phase me! I cannot even remember some of the drugs I took!

I tried biofeedback, acupuncture. If there was some whacked out treatment for migraines, I tried it! There was no rhyme no reason to my migraines; they were not related to my cycle as I had had a hysterectomy when I was 32 years old! So...

Anyway, if the book gives you some insight about headaches, good. If it doesn't then all you wasted was a few bucks and some reading time.

Everyone reacts differently to medication...and treatment...that's my story and I am sticking to it!

Like you said I have tried everything! I did accupuncture, ALL MEDICINES nothing worked and they still dont know what is causing my headaches. I havent had time to finish this book. THOUGH I want to!!!!!!!! I havent taken any triptans! I have been watching what I eat. I CANT give UP my MTN Dew, I have cut back though!!! I am feeling alot better I was headache FREE Saturday!! WOOOHOO! I havent been headache free in almost a year!
Like you said EVERYONE is different, if i didnt get this book I would still be maxing out my relpax or imitrex and they didnt EVEN touch the pain I was in nor my vicodins. ER was the only way to help.
I recommend this BOOK to everyone!!!!!!!
