I have a pair (or more) of little hummers at my feeder. Do I have to take down the feeder at some point to encourage them to move on to a warmer locale? I read somewhere that you can cause them to stay too long and they it can be too cold for them to travel. Is this true?
The little female is plumping up for her flight, she's so cute!

No need to worry or stop feeding them. They will go when they are ready regardless. Here is a good site:

Mine left over two weeks ago. I think they leave when some internal signal tells them too. I had plenty of food left over for them and they just "left".
Our weird weather may be confusing some however. But today it was really cold...so depending on where you are, yours may leave soon. They can have 2 broods per season. If this second brood was late, then they may be ready to leave now.

I'm going to wash the feeder and refill it tonight. It's supposed to frost here tonight, but they might stick around anyway. Year before last I think they stayed until around mid-November or thereabouts.
